Default belt squeaks after adding some belt conditioner!!! Whats wrong?

Hello all,
I have a 92 sc400.
Originally my belt is extremely quiet, and I bought the stuff to fix a small squeak sound, but instead it got worse.
Just last night I bought some belt conditioner from Kragen for my car. I sprayed the stuff onto the belt, wait few minutes and drove the car. My car now squeaks really loud after around 2k rpm. It idles really quiet though and cold start idle is loud as well. The noise by the way sounds like a marble running around. Its horrible!!!

Did my belt expand after I spray the stuff? Do I need to tighten it or did I mess something up? Please help. Thanks

Are you sure it's the belt and not the tensioner that's squealing? Just a thought. I never use belt conditioner personally, anytime a belt starts acting up I just replace it since they're normally around $40 or so.

Im not really sure. Something is quealing really loud and I dont know what it is. Im only guessing on the belt. Where is the tensioner anyways and how do I adjust it?

The belt conditioner is just a fluid that dries sticky, causing the belt to grip more.

I just checked the tension on the belt, and I can press down on the belt about 1" or more. It seems loose to me. I read that it should only move about 1/4". So can someone tell me how I go about tightening up this belt? Thank you.

Well, the tensioners on sc's are spring loaded so if your belt is loose then your tensioner is probably bad and you need to replace the entire tensioner unit. Also the squeeling noise could be your fan clutch making that noise. Mine made a very loud squeeling noise before it took a dump, then I went to electric fans.

Like I said, I would never use a belt conditioner. Never. If a belt is making noise it needs to be replaced, not cheaply/temporarily silenced. The noise you're hearing is an indication of something worn or having more play in it than it should (belt or tensioner/idler pulley)...meaning replacement is necessary.

Try replacing the serp belt first..It worked for me on several occasions...Some older belts just love to squeel for some reason....The tensioner could be the problem...Grab a can of WD40 and just tap spray the tensioner only and see if the noise goes away...

never ever put any spray on a belt! the squeaking only occurs when something is slipping. remove it with 14mm wrench counterclockwise in 10 seconds and WASH IT IN YOUR WIFE'S KITCHEN, dry it, clean your tensioners with alcohol and put it back on in 1 minute and the grip you need is there again. you have more steering, more eletricity, more everything. good luck!

i had the same noise, cept it did it on its own (never put conditioner on before). eventually my tensioner seized up got a new one and a new belt also.

everything seems fine cept i get a little bit of squeeking and low speeds and when i just start up the car. can anyone help? and tell me what exact belt size your using? i went to a couple of places and for some reason each place has a different size for the belt.

best bet is to just replace the belt, how old is it how many miles are on it?probably needs to be replaced and its a cheap easy fix, if that doesn't solve the problem move onto the tensioner.

I know this thread is alittle old but which pulley is the actual tensioner? and so you really can't tighened the belt since its spring loaded?
