Default Warning Light problems

I bought my 92 SC400 yesterday. Drove it off the lot with airbag light on. Later the check engine, traction and airbag lights were on. I drove home (150 miles) and the car runs great, it also flew through emissions. I have read O2 sensers could be the problem? Any help would be appriciated

You bought the car car with airbag light on? How much did you pay for it, how many miles? Traction light on. Did you to push the Traction botton near the ash tray to turn it on/off.

Under the dash and under the hood there are places for you to check the engine light code. Above the left knees, under the dash, open the cap of the check module. Using a paper clip stick it in T1 and TE1 terminal then turn on the ignition (do not start the engine) count the no. of time the engine light flashs. That will tell you the code of what's wrong.
Post it back and some of us with shop manual will tell you what is wrong.

I bought my SC w/ the air bag light on too. It was the result of replacing the battery and not "following the manual" for installation. It wasn't my doing, but a trip to the Lexus dealer and $30 later, the warning lights were reset. They told me its a very common problem, and a good indicator that the vehicle has been serviced at a non Lexus Dealer. I questioned the guy I bought the car from, and he admitted to replacing the battery himself when it kept dying on him - the battery was well beyond its age for OEM. Plus my dealer had a full record of all the maintenance on the car, plus the purchase of a battery but not installation.

Who the Hell buys a Battery from the Dealer???? This Idiot did.

Anyway. Hope the problem is just as simple for you. I was worried that the car didn't have an air bag - I.E. it was in an accident, that the owner was too cheap to blow the grand or so to replace it.

I don't have a Lexus dealer in town (150 miles away). What can I do myself?

The first thing to do is to disconnect your battery which is simple.
Leave it disconnected for about 20 min. When you turn it back on the lights may have been reset. If not, replace the battery. If that doesn't work you may need an alternator. If that doesn't work call the guy you bought it from and raise a little hell.

Get yourself a shop manual it will help a lot in trouble shoot. Call 800-908-6968 ask for Steve Ganz or Gordon. I did not buy my shop manual from them but so far they selling Lexus parts cheaper than the local dealer. I paid about $90 for my shop manual.

Did you check the Trac. button near the ash tray yet?

As I write this I've got the battery disconnected to try that. My trac button on the console doesn't turn the light off and on (it stays on). I heard from VQT re: # of flashes - I'll try again and let you know. Thanks for all the help!!

If the air bag light is still on it can be for two reasons.
1. When the speedo was ever removed and they left the auto tilt wheel button on and turned the ignition key it causes this problem.
2. Or maybe the sensor for the air bags.

I think it was #1. You may have to take it to the dealer or remove the bulb. The cluster is not that hard to remove.

There are no code 34 for the engine. I didn't bring the other book that talk about steering (air bag) so I don't know. Check the code again. look carefully on number of flashs. It could give more than one code too.
