Default the new guy

what's up, everyone? i am now a proud member of the lexus family. after owning 5 mustangs (including 2 cobras), i've decided to step up to another class. i just purchased a '95 sc400, and couldn't be happier.

while, it's nowhere near as fast as some of my previous rides, it's just so smooth, comfortable and refined. everything i expected. she's got 96,000 miles on her, and i guess my first steps will be maintenance. any suggestions on plugs, wires, etc? anything else i should do or look out for? also, has anyone had any issues w/ doorlocks? relays are clicking, but doors do not lock, unlock. i think the previous owner had a stereo system in it, so i'm going to take off the doors and see for myself when i put my own stereo in. i've gotten a lot of great info on here from lurking, so i'm glad to be a part.

Welcome to the club tainted and sc300tim!!!

As for plug, wire, etc recommendations......Since you said you have lurked around for a while, I am sure you have become familiar with the search function. Most day-to-day topics have been discussed A LOT, so there is a wealth of info at your fingertips.

As for my recommendation.... OEM plugs, wires, filters, etc. The Toyota stuff is all top quality (although the new oil filter for the 1uz engine is of lower quality than previous ones).

As for where to purchase those? Try any dealer vendor here on CL for good pricing. I myself use irontoad.com for my tune-up essentials.

Good luck with your new SC!!

Well now, since this SC400 of yours is not as fast as your previous rides maybe we can correct that little problem with just a few thousand dollars and still keep the car running just as reliable and comfortable as stock...

Step one -

- Install a Precisions Industries "Dragon Torque Converter"

Step two -

- BFI intake

Step three -

- Re-do the exhaust from top to end, Magna flow mufflers, cats, and EKtuning.com headers...Try to straighten out the exhaust piping as much as possible by using 2.25 mandrel piping...

Step four -

- Install a piggy-back ECU and fine tune...

Step 5 - Hit the gas and see what happens....

Have a nice day now........

or, do what I'm going to do, and for about 2,000 drop in a 1jz that's almost a direct bolt, and have 280 hp / 363 tq, along with a trans that can hold it...

not to mention just a turn of the boost controller away from 350/400 hp/tq

cobras for breakfast? sorry, but my '03 ran 11.60's all day. i appreciate all the advice, but i'm trying (well, TRYING) to keep this car really clean, and just do some appearance and stereo mods, however, i'm really starting to see the potential for something more. as far as the speed thing goes, i think my next project is going to be a modular powered fox body.
