I just got my OBDII scanner last week, and plugged it in, and BAM, the engine code popped right up. It's telling me that the O2 sensor in Bank 1, Sensor 1 is malfunctioning...
For the SC 300, there headers are a 2-1 style. There is one O2 sensor in each of the "2" section of the manifold, so that's 2. I looked around under the car and couldn't find any that were before or after the cat, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.

Are they at the same distance? then they're the same. If one goes bad the other will follow (not often). Check with someone with a shop manual or check with dealer parts. They can at least tell you it the same or not..,
On the sc300 you will find the O2 sensors---one on each side of your exh. manif.(bottom of the manf.) and the third one at right side of your trany. If you have any problems you could reach me at www.lexussc400.com Carlos.
my guess is the #1 sensor is the one just at your exhaust manifold. The #2 sensor is installed on the aft cat, and is really just there to report on the condition of the cat., doesn't really have anything to do with engine operation.
Thanks for your replies. There are 2 in the engine bay. I checked with the Lexus tech... Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the one towards the front of the car.

Now you have to determine the left or the right O2 is fauty. Change that one if you prefer. I paid $114 each for the front (Main O2). Since I could determine for sure which one was bad so I change both at the same time. ~$245 for both, I got htis from one of the Lexus dealer near DC. Shop around for price if you can't get the $114 price e-mail me and I'll give you the name, phone no. of the guy my brother knows at the dealership near DC. Or you can call Gordon at 800-908-6968, Carson Toyota. Gordon gave me a quote of ~$350-$400 each (he might of looking up the wrong part, the rear O2 cost that much each)
