Exclamation Trunk mounted CD changer question

Greetings all!

I have 2 questions:

What model Lexus' and what years have interchangable trunk-mount CD changers with my 93 SC400?

If the CD player seems to have less tolerance to scratches and smudges and skips (frequently with CD-Rs) is there something I can do besides buying a refurb from Lex for $500 or on ebay for a little bit less?

I know Lexus changed the part number in 96 for the CD changer, but I know from experience that a Nak amp from 96 works fine in my 93 SC400.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I believe that all of the SC 300/400 CD changers are interchangeable. I'm fairly certain, not 100% though.

I'm at school now but when I get home (in about 8 hours) i'll grab the phone number of a place that will re-manufacture your cd changer and post it here.

Default remanufacture

hellasboy thank you very much! I am very interested in finding out about having it reconditioned, if that is what it needs.

Is that all, or am I better off trying to find one from a later model year? Did they make them better able to handle CD-R(w)'s? If that's the case I'd want a newer one.

Thanks!

I know for a fact that they recondition the lexus CD changers. I don't know price though

My '95 handles CD-R(W)s without any problems. I know someone with a '92 and he doesn't have any problems with CD-R(W)s. It depends on the condition of the changer. I've heard of stories where some changers will play store bought cd's fine and cdrs are barely playable and vice versa for the same year.

if you get a price quote from Komtec, please post, i'm interested to know how much they are charging.

I have a 92 SC400 and my changer will play cd-rs just fine. You have to test certain types of blank media. My lexus cd changer will not play cheap, green bottomed disks, then I tried the SONY AUDIO USE cdrs and Memorex AUDIO USE and I have had no problems. These disks are about 30% more expensive but they work great in Lexus'.
