Just found out that the 2 front OEM Lexus Cat Converters for my 92 SC400 are $2,800. What other options do I have?

 

get magnaflows they're not expensive and better performance. when i got all three magnaflow cats with installation it cost me about 600. later i found them for about 100 or less on ebay. i'd pick em up there. then just have a muffler shop install them. shouldn't cost you that much.

 

deffinatly look around there are a lot of reputable compaines with relativly cheap cats. you could even pick up some high flow cats

 

I was just under the car today and one of my cats are clogged. that is a very tight space what model number magnaflows did you use? do we have to order special flanges? thanks guys .... I need the help...I already missed a meet because of this....

 

Hmmmm, well if you live in a state with no emissions, i would just remove the cat . Have a pipe installed in its place then all will be good

 

If you take a look at the Magnaflows, get a 3 way about .5 inch bigger than your current exhaust pipe.

Even with out precats on mine and just a Magnaflow, not a single check engine light. I even tested down here on a gas analyzer and it would pass the stringent requirements we have down here.

However, I am a Florida vehicle...no emissions and no state inspections...hooray.

 

honestly i don't know the model # the muffler shop that i went to put em on for me . but as far as i know they are universal. i could be wrong

Sure. You gain a big red sticker that says FAILED on your front windshield.

Removing the cats in their entirety usually does not result in any gain.

 

I have friends down here who do this, and only in extremely high boost or high power applications is there any real gain. The rest I claim do it for show and just put it back in for emissions (every 6 months here).

Best to get a high flow as I mentioned before and be done with it.

 

Wow, how about you go learn some things about combustion and how motors work, then rethink your answer.

 

mkorsu in the state of NC OBDI vehicles do no have to pass emissions only safety.

- Dyno is performed without cats

w/ cats: +44rwhp, +46.8ft*lb
w/o cats: +44.7rwhp, +46.9ft*lb

Personally, I will risk my 0.7hp and 0.1ft*lb at the expense of not having the risk of getting thrown in jail for having no cats. The right cats flow nearly as well as a straight pipe.

 

Search around for muffler shops. Most should also do cat jobs.
