Starting problem - just clicks - not a simple fix
driftnsc3 that sounds like ur alternator is no good. A new battery will help u out for a short while. Go check if ur alternator is still good
For the thread starter, im guessing ur starter mang. GL

Doubt the alternator is the issue, The car should still be able to be jumped it would stay running as long as the other car was still providing 14 volts to it, when the cables are unhooked it would either die or the battery lite would be on.
You said the starter was an aftermarket re-man unit, i don't usually trust those on any japanese vehicle. I've had too many issues with them.
Seriously check the negative terminal on the battery, follow the cable to where it grounds and unbolt it from the body, clean it well. also make sure it's not broken off up inside the insulator. I've seen these corrode all the way under the insulation where it will look fine to the naked eye, but it will still be an open circuit to ground.
If the ground is ok, blame the aftermarket starter and get a nice toyota one, they rarely fail and when they do it's usually just a simple set contacts that need replacing. A good toyota dealer can fix the factory starter for less than the cost of the reman unit.

Sooooo... what happened here? What ended up being the solution? IF you had to replace the starter (SC400 DISASTER!) how much money did you pay in labor, for the new starter and what type/manu and where did you have it done? I'm in Tampa FL and having what seems to similar problems.
I'm just trying to avoid replacing the starter AT ALL COSTS.

I am having symptoms like from anemic starter to a hyperactive starter, power drains constantly and my charger says that there is a short in the electrical system, Now my car wont start just fast clicks... My radio wont power on too. I checked the fuse and its ok. What was the cure? a new starter?
Lexus / Toyota starters are known for this infamous dead "click"
the starter, even though newish or rebuilt is still usable... most of the time, all you have to do is clean the solenoid contact inside it - once disassembled, you will see a more than likely dirty contact patch, with just one clean spot where it was contacting before - prior to not working...
99 times out of 100 on a toy/lex starter, cleaning this will cure the issue (and obviously making sure the contacts are good) the motor rarely ever dies...
either way, only 3 months old, I'd be looking into warranty on that thing
