Default Starter Problem?

For a few months, I have had an intermittent problem starting my car. Occasionally, when I turn the key, the starter doesn't engage. All the accesories power up, but the there is no sign of starting (no clicking etc). I have learned to turn the key all the way off then back to the start position a few times and eventually it will start right up without a problem.

Even more rare, the starter sounds like it is turning over, but not fast enough to start the car.

Is this a starter, or is there something else that could be causing this problem?

How is your battery and the cables? You may need to check the condition of your battery and both cables first.

The battery and cables have already been tested...no problems. When the ignition is turned to the on position, all accessories work without a problem...including the sound system.

What kind of voltage does the battery put out? I'm leaning toward the starter. Looking at around $900 at least for parts and labor.

The battery is an optima redtop (if I remember correctly)...should put out plenty of amps. I have an estimate from Lexus of Austin for about $800, but I am moving to Dallas this Friday...I guess I will call Sewell and get an estimate from them.

If you are moving to Dallas give us a ring. We will be able to help you out.
