Default Need some SC owners opinion.

I've been searching for awhile for an SC but have to sell my ES first.. Anyways this just popped up 6 miles from my house today in Autotrader...

1993 SC300 150k Blk on gray interior 5 SPEED $6500.00

Here is the exact words from the ad:

1993 Lexus SC300. RARE 5 Speed Manual. 18" TRD (Toyota Racing Development) wheels, TRD Suspension (lowered 2"), Supra Twin Turbo Rotors and Calipers, Supra Turbo Seats, Fully Loaded, 12 disc changer, 3M widow tint. Sister car to the MKIV Supra, many parts directly interchangable. 3.0 inline six, 5 speed manual, rear wheel drive. A sports car with a Lexus ride.

I know that 97+ are better for boost but this could be a potential project.. I'm waiting for more info on the car such as maintance work etc.. What do you guys think?

Get it! Try talking him down a little, it never hurts to try. I don't think the 97's are easier to turbo. With the 96 and above sc's you have to deal with ob2 which I understand to be harder to tune.

Sounds like a good deal, but check the title before you buy,i'm sure you were going to anyway.I have never heard that the 97+ is better for boost. I know that the pre 95s are good because they have the obd-1 sensor in it and is easier to mod.I say go ahead and get it if thats what you wont.

Sounds like an decent deal. The only thing I wouldnt be too hot about is the supra seats in it. Im in love with my stock SC seats. Nothing better than heated seats on a chilly morning. But, depending on what your SC goals are, it might not matter to you. I say, If you want it go out and get it before someone else beats you to it.

Sounds like a decent deal. I would try to talk him down a little anyway. OBDI is better for boost in my opinion if you go na-t. But in that particular setup I would go with the 1JZ.

If you don't buy it, I'm going to buy it myself when I'm in Jupiter this weekend.

Will the 1jz bolt up to the stock 5 speed? With 150k the tranny should be replaced... ?

Here's the email I got today from the owner:

Hey, here are some answers. I see you are familiar with the SC. There are some gauge needles out. The trim around the door window is cracked. The timing belt is good. Just changed the alternator. There appears to be an oil leak from the distributor seal. No oil makes it to my driveway though. There is NO slipping in the clutch. I forgot to list that I have all three factory service manuals.

He also said the the timing belt was done at 60k, and 120k. He got the car at 120k
The hood and rear trunk are oxidized.. He wasn't sure on the water pump..

I still think its a pretty good deal considering the Mods done and that its a 5 speed.. If i get this car there's going to be lots of ?'s Is this still a good deal?

I picked up my '95 bone stock with not quite 100k miles, this one has more miles and some parts, so I'd say you're getting a good deal as long as it runs well!

What do TRD wheels look like? I don't even think I've ever heard of them.

Looks good. Take it out for a spin and see if you can find a mechanic that's trust worthy enough to give you exact quotes on repairs. Good Luck!! You won't regret a 5-speed!

If you're doing the swap unless you get a r154 you will have to reuse the sc300 5 speed tranny anyway. So while it's apart I would change the clutch you will just have that 500 mile break in period where you can't boost

edit: Car looks clean from the pic.

I picked up a 97 SC300 with less miles for just a little bit more than that. Mine is stock right now but the 97+ styling I think makes a big difference. Don't be so quick to jump on it because it has mods - unless of course these are the mods that you would choose. For $6k OTD it may be a winner

I hear ya jonny.. I just spoke to my neighbor who is familair with cars and its basically a chance someone would have to make on getting this car with 150k. He may come with me on Saturday to look at the car. It may be worth it to buy the car and than pick up the 1jz+tranny and swap it in there.. It already has suspension and wheels so basically the egine and tranny just need attention.. but my neighbor said also that it could cost alot of $$$. but on the other hand it may be a fun project to tackle. Another option is to buy the Boost logic stage 1 kit and drive the car as is.. 300-325 HP is really all I'm after. I'm over my head with this thing? Thanks
