Ended up getting a steering-wheel puller from Kragen (Checkers?) for under $10. It did the trick.

This is what you need. Cost about $80

LOL...that picture makes it look so simple.
The ratchet in his right hand would need to be at least 2 feet long, while the one in the left, at least 4 feet. Then maybe he would get it loose.
Helpfull tool nonetheless.
I put the car in 5th gear and had a friend hold the brakes with choks underneath all 4 tires. It did the trick (probably thanks to the aftermarket clutch)

It is simple with the tool.
But yes, you need to add extensions to the rachets, but one person can handle the job.

did you change the pulley due to excessive squeeling i noticed mine has no grooves and it looks like a buildup of rubber on the pulley. where did you get the new one and what type is it? i also noticed the tensioner has a metal pulley not the plastic one i have on my sc did you change that one as well also what type? thanks so much

Yes, it was squealing like crazy.
I replaced the tensioner pulley with one from a local car parts store because I thought that's where the noise was coming from.
My 'new' one is actually a used one from a fellow NA Supra owner.
They are pretty expensive new.
BoostLogic makes a lightweight replacement if you need the performance.

Good luck.

Cheers,
~Alan

Where can I get this tool? I'm about to replace my crank pulley also and don't have access to impact tools.

I did this on monday when I did the timing belt and water pump. I just wedged a breaker bar against the frame rail and bumped the starter. It came off instantly, with no headache. I read about some people warning against this technique, but it worked perfectly for me.

Interesting. My starter made a few clicking noises, and then proceeded to smell like ***. That's about it.

Interesting tool, but I think I'll stick with my 600lb torque impact gun. Works wonders Could remove and install literally in seconds ^^ Highly recommended tool for at home mechanics.
