Default When the snow falls.....

When I had my IS300...it was terrible in the snow. Everyone recommended Blizzaks for the winter, but i didnt get around to getting them. It may have been a completely different ball game if i had. I was just curious to see if anyone could give me any insight on how the SC is gonna do in the snow? Its early, but i'm just trying to prepare ahead of time.

Honestly not any better. Not unless you get some really good winter tires and take it easy on the gas. When I owned my sc400 it was very easy to lose control in it in the snow. In the rain with my 5spd sc300 I can always spin the tires, it all just depends on how much throttle I give it. Now getting my car back with a turbo, that won't help any. Anyone else got some input?

It definitely has a lot to do with amount of throttle.....being an auto doesnt help things either. At least a manual trans wouldve given me a bit more control of the car. I didnt think it was going to be much better. I guess i'll just buckle up and hope for the best

I swear by Blizzacks during the winter. If I can drive a turbo'd Miata during the winter with Blizzacks the I think the SC will be ok. Just be careful with the throttle.

I just sold a brand new set of Blizzaks to another member....I decided not driving the SC in winter is better than anything.

Last winter I had a person stop in front of me on a hill.....Even with the TRAC it was no-go. Granted I was still riding on the factory original GT+4 which "Blow" in the snow. BTW in that situation, Turning "off" the TRAC was the answer, Eventually the car got moving... with the TRAC on, all I had was "clicking" no wheel movement what so ever. Not a good car in the snow.

My first SC never had snow tires, I always had performance tires even during the winter time. Just go reeaaalll slow and easy on the throttle.
The second one I have now came with snow tires on the stock 15'' fans. Haven't tried them in the winter yet but they are Blizzacks, which from what I've heard are fairly good. So i'm guessing they should do a little better in the snow compared to street tires.
What part of Ohio do you live in? I'm out in Cincinnati, so you probably get the same weather as me. If you really want to hit me up before winter time and I'll sell you my 15'' fans with the blizzacks.

I'm in Hilliard....far west suburb of Columbus. I may take you up on the offer for those Blizzaks in a couple of months. We'll talk $'s then....but i would probably just try to get the tires from you if that were an option. PM me a name and phone # if you dont mind and I'll get in touch after the scorching sun sets (damn its been hot) and before the flakes fall. Good looking out, i appreciate the help.

Rear-wheel cars suck in the snow period. The only way to make driving the snow manageable is with a good set of snow tires - thus if you plan on driving your SC in snow, it may be a worthy investment.

And for the record, Blizzaks are awesome!! I went snowboarding last winter and was driving up the mountain while it was SNOWING and never lost grip with the Blizzacks.

Its ALL ABOUT SNOW TIRES. Doesn't have to be Blizzacks though. Just make sure you have a snow rated (snowflake icon on the tire) tire for the winter. You won't be sorry. Well worth the investment.

Its also important to keep in mind that snow tires won't make you invincible (although it may seem) in the winter, you will still need to drive as if you have all seaons on. Better safe than sorry.

I've gone two winters with just normal tires up here in Alaska. If you know how to drive and you know what you are doing you should be fine.

Just say NO! Based on my experience, you're better off getting snowshoes and walking. Besides you really don't want to get stuck on some street (especially with a hill you didn't expect) and block traffic while being called a dumb @$$ by everyone who passes...

im with alaskan. If you know how to drive and actually pay attention while doing so. I made it through the winter on a set of 195/15/60 summer tires here in columbus and i had no problem. When i got my 275/17/40's hi-po all seasons it was even easier. Just feel the car out and if it feels like its getting light on any corner let off the gas some or turn less and you will have no problems

My SC is staying in the garage if there is a possible chance of snow. I have a little 2 wheel drive yoda, with a flatbed hahahah that I use in the snow. Its even worse, but I don't care if I put it in the ditch, I can just lift it out.
