Default Road Trip

I just got back from a jaunt to San Francisco and back (LA). Took my 98 SC300 and was amazed at the way this car handled the trip.

Absolutely no problems, squeeks, flaws, etc. This is an incredible road car. It was so comfortable, quiet and stable the whole time. I'm running completely stock except for 18" SC4300 wheels w/ Toyo t-1r's.

I've made this trip many times before in all kinds of cars but the SC300 was just so flawless, like it was designed for this kind of driving.

I'd like to hear others experiences w/ long distance drives.

hey great to hear everything when well.
me and my best friend made a trip last summer from atl to north carolina.
only down side was no a/c and the car didnt like staying above 3000 for extended periods. but the five spped was great other wise. ride was comforable and there was lots of pick up on hte high when needed.
cant wait to do it again and to any one else i highly recomend it.
plus i averaged upwards of 25 mpg on cruise controle.

I bought my SC in New York and drove it to Central Texas in just under 2 days.

Aside from the lack of A/C (it's on the fritz right now, cause unknown) and a clutch that slips under high boost (car has a 1JZ), the car ran flawlessly.

My father and I team drove over 1800 miles with no issues.
The suspension (JDM Bilstein) soaked up minor road inconsistencies but did not add too much harshness. The seats are very comfortable. There is plenty of storage for 2 people. We averaged over 20 mpg, even with the 1JZ and many, many pulls from 40-50mph up to 100+mph.

I'd say the SC may be one of the best 'sporty' long distance drivers out there.
Good handling, plenty of acceleration and high speed stability, very comfortable, and enough range (big gas tank) even with the 1JZ.

It doesn't really compare with a S-class, for example, but like I said.... 'sporty'.
There are better long distance cruisers, but not many that also hit the 'sporty' spot.
Once you factor in the cost of these cars, the SC is a real bargain.
I'd trust my SC to more long distance drives in a heartbeat.... just need to get that A/C problem solved....

Default Texas to Cali

Texas to Cali in one day in a 300 NA-T. Hit a deer on the way. That sucked.
Nice car for long rides.

I averaged about 23-4 mpg @ 80 MPH. Temperature in the 90's. X-winds about 30 MPH.

Rock solid stability and responsiveness. I never felt I was out driving the car's capabilities no matter what. Passing was a breeze, pedal down. It just squatted down and smoothly accelerated to whatever I wanted to do. Fantastic car!

I drove from Long Island to Blacksburg, Virginia, about 550 miles one way, in just under 8 hours. That's including massive Long Island traffic + Washington DC rush hour traffic (damn that 495!!). On the highway I would say I averaged 85mph at LEAST, with several 2 mile stretches at 100mph, and one 2 mile stretch steady @ 130mph. The car was VERY comfortable the entire way, no problems mechanically, physically or anything. Even for 2 miles @ 130mph, the car felt as though it was going 90 mph. Handled GREAT, I was very impressed. I would do that kind of road trip again in a heartbeat if not for all the now visible rock chips on my front bumper/hood. Anywho, my only gripe is that these seats give my lower back some major problems after about 3 hours. There is not enough lumbar support, even with the built in one in the seat all the way out.

Go for it though, it's certainly a pleasant ride!

I don't remember my exact MPG, but when I filled up in northern Jersey to when I filled up in the middle of Virginia (I was at about 1/8 tank left, in between E and the first dash) I had 380 miles on the trip meter which I had reset in Jersey. The car would have easily hit 400+, granted stints at 100+ mph severely decrease fuel efficiency

I used to drive from Yuba City to San Jose, California back and forth everyweekend for a couple months straight. The entire trip is like 500 miles and is almost 3hours long. I noticed how comfortable I was in my car the entire time. I agree with you, these cars are great for taking road trips.

I bought my car in TN and drove it home. I drive there a couple of times a year to visit family. It was, hands down, the most comfortable 755 miles I have driven. These cars are great highway cars. I got with a couple of cars while heading home and we cruised ~95mph for a couple of hours. Most of the time I stayed just under the 80mph mark. I averaged 24mpg for the trip. These cars have larger than average fuel tanks also. I would have to stop three times for fuel in my previous two cars. In the Lexus I only have to make two fuel stops. The SC is definitely one of the best cars I have owned so far.
