The last shop I had work on it...screwed it over and Ive never taken it to a shop since. It had to be repainted, new body work and I filed a lawsuit....they were shut down less then a week later. NO company should be contacting anyone in regards to my car...cept for the ones in my signature.
It was talked about in the SuperStreet article...brings back bad memories now
I repainted the front bumper on the upper deck of my house the night before the Superstreet photoshot .....and blew the motor during the shoot LoL!!
Can you PM me that info? Im from Seattle BTW......
I havent spent any amount of money on a paint job yet. But I am planning to real soon. Since Im not rich yet, I've decided that I will go the easier route. The cheap, but good quality paint, route. I spoke with a professional painter who has been painting cars, mostly race cars and show cars, for many years. He also happened to be a PPG dealer. I told him I wanted to have my car painted but I want to buy my own paint. There are three different grades of paint. There is the good kind which costs about $300. That includes the paint, primer sealer, clearcoat, the hardener and all that other good stuff to make the paint job a success. The next grade of paint is the mid grade which is about $500 more since they use better quality clear coat and another chemical is added to the mixture. And then there is the Best grade which runs about $800+. From what I learned after having a long chat with the guy was that the good and mid grade paint is equivalent to factory paint. The Best grade is showcar quality. What I am planning to do is buy a little bit of both the good and mid grade since my goal is to make my car look like it just came out of the factory. After all that I just have to find someone who can do all the prepping and spraying the actual paint onto the outside of my car. Should run me under $1000 when Im done.

are you purchasing your paint online? I was thinking about doing the same thing. I read somewhere that PPG permachrome paint is good? I'll have to find that thread somewhere....
4 quarts of custom DuPont Chromabase at $140 each plus a gallon of clear added up to about $750 for just paint. Body shop hooked me up and charged another $1500 prepping it perfect and flairing the rear quarters, rolling the front fenders and filling in all the emblem holes and antenna. No paint under the engine bay yet. So in a nutshell about $2400.

I am purchasing my paint at either a PPG dealer in Sacramento or from a shop that a CL member owns here in the bay area. Depends on who can get me the best deal. The bay area guy took a look at my recipe and thinks he can beat the PPG dealer's price.
