Default Sc300 taillight upgrade

Hello CL,

I was wondering if anyone could help me? I converted my 1996 lexus sc300 to the 1997 taillights. The sockets on the harness are different. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me some information on what the easiest way to convert the 1996 harness to fit the 1997 taillights? Where can I find the sockets? Thanks CL members!!!

Ummm..... get the 97 harness. My lights came with the harness and I have no problems with them (except for the light out warning in the dash, but that's expected). The lights just plugged straight in.

Yup, need the new wiring harness for the tails for the 97+. Trying to mod the older harness will just cost more.

Thanks for the replies, I bought them used and I guess now I have to spend a little more money on this darn conversion.

Thanks

I had a '95, I just recently got a '94 and swapped the tails and have the hyperblinking problem.
For those of you who swapped harnesses, how exactly did you do it? I'm thinking of doing it to fix the blinking problem but cannot figure out what to take out and swap over, there arent any plugs or anything, it just looks like the harness connects with another one in the trunk that leads up through to the front of the car. am i gonna have to splice anything?

edit: nevermind, i had a brain fart. i realized the answer to my own question after i posted..

All pre '97 SCs used the same style (not same number of bulbs or configuration however) harness and use 1156 and 1157 bulbs. The 97+ tails use a different style harness and use 7440 wedge style bulbs. I think the hyperblinking is mainly in the pre-95 models. I thought the 95-96 years didn't hyperblink when moving to the 97+ tails. I may be wrong. All harnesses however plug directly into the main wiring harness. Hope that clears it up a bit.

If you guys want to fix the blinking problem, what I did was wired up a trailer side light (it contains 3 light bulbs) and it blinks fine now.. The 92-94s had like 3 more lights than the 95+ for the blinking.. it dosnt take long to wire.. PM me for more detailed instructions.. thanks

A load will do the trick, or should at least. You'll have to wire it in yourself though.
