Can the V8 get VVT-i with a head swap? Will the 4.3L parts fit in the 4.0L V8s?
I'd heard that the difference was from different cams/headwork,which raised the torque peak by nearly 1,000 rpm. This change then made less power at the bottom, more at the top than the older cars. The newer,4 speed auto trans allowed the cars not have to lug around like the older,3 speed autos would if you were to tune/mod the engine the same way.
I just want a six speed so I can go nuts with polishing the heads and intake, and maybe get some cams ground. Now that the U.S. cam grinders are getting a little more hip to the 4-valve,import engines,it's a little easier to get those parts than before.
