It doesn't matter. When in boost, you're not in closed loop, and the ECU is ignoring the O2 sensor. How hard is that to understand Mr. Ignorant? On a flat road, at 55 mph a 1JZ will not be in boost and will run off of the O2 sensor. When you accelerate, you may or may not be in boost...but this has nothing to do with how the ECU will react to different conditions. Not to mention an O2 sensor is needed for emissions...a catalytic converter operates at peak efficiency at stoich (14.7 afr).

Just admit it, your statement about a bad O2 sensor was pulled out of your ***.

I guess you personally never drove a 1JZ. Because i can easily make 5psi going 55mph in a straight line. I can make 5psi at 1600rpms. 10psi doing 85mph not even accerating. Its all how you work the pedal to work the wastegates and turbos. All this does not apply to my car anyways, it never see's closed loop. I average over 20mpg with a heavy foot.

And this has what to do with your original argument that a bad O2 will cause 16-18 mpg? Honestly, you sound really stupid here. If you're boosting 10 psi at 85, you will be accelerating. Working the wastegates? Wow...this conversation has dropped to a new level of stupidity.

Let me ask you something...do you really understand how a turbocharged engine works? Aside from "the blow dryer thingy blows air into the engine and you can make it sound badass with a blowoff valve"?

You're not getting 20 mpg around town boosting. End of story. Check your speedometer, its definately off.

Sorry about that Hemogoblin, I get a bit passionate about what I believe to be misinformation. I will be in Moorpark again Saturday morning, so if you want to drive up to the shop I'd be more than happy to let you check the car out.

As for VJ, this is the last thing I've got to say...

Below is a video I made just for you, of my AVC-R during a run on a quiet street. I didn't push the car too hard, just enough to let you know that it is indeed a 1JZ and you can drive 85 mph on a level road and not be in boost:
