Ok....I'm tired of having crappy patches over the factory wing holes in the trunk, etc...and the bodykit not matching exactly. Well I've got PPG Harlequin colors (color-shift) paint to paint the car, but I'm going to get that done professionally. I'm not about to attempt spraying a paint that was $450 a quart!

Well with NOPI coming up, there's no way I could enter my car having holes in the trunk, etc. So I'm gonna use some red (1996 GMC Wildfire Red to be exact) and two-tone the car. In the pic below you see the blow tape....well I'm painting below the tape in the red. So it's gonna go back and hook up over the trunk. What'r everyone's opinions on this? I think it'll look pretty cool, and it'll match all the other red crap I'm putting in my car. (almost went with yellow, but yellow would add too much speed and HP....lol).

The way it curves up is at the same curvature that the wheel well curves down....figured that would look good

The Ikon likes solid colors; however, your vision is perfect for car shows!

Are you going back with the same 18" wheels? Are you painting the calipers red too?

Ikon...

my thoughts sorta. I do like solid paintjobs. But I can't really call the colorshift paint I got single color, BUT it will all be the same. But for now instead of wasting $2500 in paint I figure I can spray $80 of paint and make the car look better than NC primer and bondo.
And ya it's mostly for NOPI, hopefully while I'm out west I'll find a nice paintshop that can spray for me. I'm gonna put some red STICKERS on the front fender also, just little ones, but something to match the paintjob and add a little more rice for the shows.

Yep same 18's for now, not going to 20s until I get the next paintjob. Haven't decided on the calipers. They look bad as they are, being dirty and kinda rusty, so I was thinking of painting them red while I'm at it. Whatta ya think? I'm also painting the NOS tank from my trunk to match.

Yeah, go for the painted calipers. At shows, especially at this magnitude you have to finesse all the details!

I know what you mean about the paint job. I'm not bringing my Karmann Ghia because of some rust and $$$ shortage for the "right" paint job! I can not come "half ***" in the custom VW class. I need a few more bucks and a few more weeks to get it just right.. There's always next year.

Do you have lowering springs and strut?

Modified Eibachs and KYB's, nice ride, not a rice-bump one, but plenty stiff for road courses.

Ya, I figure I'll be putting large brake upgrades when I get the next paint, so I can go ahead and paint these without worry.

Damnit, I'm going to bed now. Gotta go into work at 6am....sheoot.

.... i'm green w/ envy

Have you thought about spot welding the original antenna hole? you can always rewire the antenna to your rear window. what color is your 2-tone paint, red and white? I can't wait to see that, I was thinking about doing anthracite grey and black.

I can't wait to see some pictures of your SC finished!

Hellaboy, are you talking about wiring it to the defroster grid or adding a grid antennae to the rear window?

I was going to shave the antennae hole, but decided against it for now. (my welder is 3hrs away in another state right now). I figure I can wait on that until the next paintjob, because at that point I'm also having the washer squirters shaved. And I'm not about to try using bondo to cover a hole that big...it'd crack in NO TIME.

Like Ikon, I like monotone paintjobs (unless you have a Rally car or some other serious race car).

I think a NICE color that's "showey" (is that a word?) is that color that GMC or Ford or someone is using...it's like a copper color.... A SC would look nice in that color...(but a GS or LS wouldn't!). I'm not really into a "Chameleon" paint jobs. The Civic/Integra market has not only blown it up, it's gone past it...it's old news and just looks korny now.

Anyways, I would use either PPG or DuPont. No others. If you want a SERIOUS showcar finish but still be able to drive it and have it be "repairable", do a THICK PPG paint job. Thick to the point where it's almost running. And always, always spend extra time and effort in the sanding phases...especially the final colorsanding phase...(I have a few good friends who are showcar painters... )

Shaving the holes is a good idea...will clean up the body...I don't know about you, but I don't listen to radio anyways...50 Disc changer!

As for the calipers, SILVER or BLACK...when you get ACTUAL high performance brakes, THEN get them in red! Don't fake the funk!
