Default Suspension question?

I bought an sc300 a while ago that was setup for drifting.... It has an ATS 2 way lsd and silkroad adjustable coilovers on it... Lately the car hasnt been too streetable.. At random times, the lsd kicks in and once it does that, the backend jerks or starts to sway.. It happens unpredictably too.. so its pretty scary to drive especially around turns because the back end is really really unpredictable.. It just started doing this recently....

Also, the car is really really low but the silkroads are adjustable... I pretty much bottom out on every street and its not fun.. I didnt have a floorjack so i dropped it off at a shop to raise the car back up.. Well, they called me back not too long ago saying that the screws to adjust the coilovers are stuck so they cant raise the car up.. What are my options for the suspension?

I'm really hoping the jerking and unpredictability of the back end is due to my alignment being off but i cant get my car aligned until the car is raised since the car is too low for the alignment machines.. What should i do? I have my turbo kit and everything i need for my setup sitting in my closet but i dont want to go forward with this project until i resolve this issues.. Are my coilovers salvageable? I'm really debating going supra tt spec koni's with eibach springs.. I really like my suspension now but i cant deal with the height of the car.. Could the jerking be the LSD malfunctioning? The differential oil was just changed a couple of months ago..

the noise and actions of the rear end are normal. a 2 way lsd kicks in on acceleration and deceleration which causes people to be caught off guard by it. the noise you are hearing from it is also normal as they are a noisy unit. the reason why the rear end keeps kicking out is because it is setup for just that....drifting which has both wheels turning at the same speed around a corner. you have two options, get a different differential (diff lsd or go to a stock unit) or adapt and enjoy the extra control you have over the car. i suggest the later of the two as you will want it when you are boosted.

as for the coilovers, i doubt they are fully seized unless they show a ton of corrosion. on my old turbo del sol i had a set of coilovers that seasonally needed to be doused with brake cleaner to knock out the pebbles and dirt in the threads of the perches. then a healthy dose of pb blaster or wd40 was thrown on to help with knocking them loose. sometimes it takes a little muscle to get them loose but they will move. make sure that the shop isnt trying to tighten the bottom perch into the top perch or vise versa (loosen the top into the bottom). if that doesnt work you can carefully use a heat gun to heat the perches (not the threads) to help with getting them to move. good luck

thanks a lot for the info... i'm suprised with the lsd as it never used to kick out until recently... i could be going in a straight line and it just kicks out for no reason...

your welcome; if your accelerating and it kicks out it doesnt suprise me. now if you just cruising on a flat road under no to low load then i would say check your bushings/bearings/ball joints. so far it sounds normal to me.

Sounds liek 2 things:

1)You're in way over your head. If you plan of "drifting" than you should probably be able to raise and lower your car yourself at the very least. It sounds to me like you know very little about cars in general, and if you going to start drifting especially a car like a SC be prepaired to break things. Can you chage a flat if you get one? <seriously>

2)The LSD may have been installed incorrectly.

ok, just because i asked a question that doesnt mean you should insult me... i've built an 11 second talon as well as a high 12 second integra from the ground up myself.. both of which i sold to get my sc.. i'm an engineer so i doubt a car would be way over my head.. i never said i was into drifting, i bought the car setup this way.. its my daily and i am considering swapping some of the things around...

i could take apart my sc300 and put it together easily.. the only reason why anyone else is working on my car is because i just moved to this area due to a job transfer and living in an apartment complex doesnt quite give you the shelter of working a garage since it is 30 degrees or less.. and i havent moved any tools with me.. I work 6 days a week and it is more cost effective for me to pay someone to get the car raised up and my alignment done at the same time instead of spending my valuable time working on my car in the freezing cold with tools that i dont even have in this state.. so please try to access the situation before running your mouth.. Your post was of no use to me, if you have nothing better to do than insult me then stay out of my thread...

I checked the lsd.. it is installed properly..

for the front lower... dont waste your time with poly bushings, get the whole lower control arm from the supra tt. heck for that matter i would just buy all new control arms to get all new ball joints so you never have to worry about them. until someone comes up with a ball joint that can be pressed into the stock arms im going to buy the whole arms, its only a little more costly but its easier to install and it covers half of the suspension components.

check on your wheel bearings for play and you should be good to go. stock bushings have such a small amount of deflection its useless to go aftermarket unless you plan on abusing them on a weekly basis.
