I got both the front and rear springs on finally. MAN the car looks a million times better! and now it REALLY corners like it's on rails!

I know everything there is to know about SC suspenion...that's for sure....LOL I took everything off and back on 3 times.

And I also know what NOT to do with the suspension....at one point I was trying to put a rear shock on last night, and at the exact point that I was trying to line up the bolt hole, the spring compressor f**kin popped off the spring! Well it just so happened that I had my index finger thru the hole on the shock mount, and into the hole on the lower shock mount....because I was trying to line up the holes to get the bolt in.

Well 3 hours later when I got back from the emergency room, I finished putting my strut back on. It broke my index finger out of joint and sheared off the end of the finger about 1/8th of an inch...so it just barely got part of the nail, and I could see the bone sticking out of the top of my finger. Ouch. Don't try this at home...LOL....well at least with crappy Advance Auto spring compressors.

Oh ya....I also got my new exhaust tips welded on today....MAN does it look MUCH better now. Those square temporary tips were TERRIBLE!!! And ignore the fact that the rear skirt things aren't molded in. I'm putting a new rear skirt on the car that goes all the way across, and getting it painted. The tips are 4" outside....3"inside......I have 3" exhaust on the car the whole way now.

What color is the one you getting?
Personally I like Original White with kits. but the color you want to get is not bad at all!

Good luck

CMputerwiz,

Since you are an expert in Sc's suspension, where can i find sway bars for sc400?

Also, what the best way to improve body roll on the sc400 with minimum effect on the ride?

Thx

Theres a local shop that will do it for 3k. That includes replacing all the rubber seals and stuff around windows and such....sanding, priming, base, pearls, clears, etc.

They sell sway bars in Japan for the cars....I would say that's your best chance to reduce roll without affecting the ride. You could do coilovers, but your ride would for sure be hurt.

With springs my car feels like a sports car now...no more luxury. the way I like it!

Actually....now that I think aboout it....the car already has sway bars on it! they're like 3/4" or 1" too...pretty big. Both front and rear. I remember this bcuz it was a pain to work around them under the car...

ComputerWhiz,
a little tip about the paint.. Go with a factory origional paint, it's good and buying more would be easier. I know that Volvo makes a color like that, so that would be one way. Making a special color like that Civic picture is awsome, but to fix and match the paint would be hell. Check out the Volvo color, or go to ImportTuner, look for a 240sx with that color.
Are you planing to sell the back addon peace? How much. Also can you give more info on how to do the Rear springs, did you have to remove the back seat and what else.
P.S. NIce work on the car!!!

ComputerWhiz,
Sweet, man good call on getting the springs!! sorry about the finger:eek:

LS400in520,
If the SC300 is the same as the SC400 (which I would think) you don't have to take the rear seat off.
In the trunk take off the liner that covers the gas tank and on the bottom you'll see the shock mounts (three nuts).
The back is the easy part.......the front is another thing, I had to losen the A-arm in order for the shocks to fit through.

LS400in520 - Just curious, but why the recommendation on going with factory paint? There is no need to go with factory paint (some factory paint SUCKS...) If you use PPG paint, you won't have any issues and you'll have a wider color choice. Don't use crap paint like Valspar.

The paint color is pretty cool but I don't know if I'd want a car I drive daily painted that color...you're just ASKING to be f*cked with (by cops and other people).

Also, for a GOOD paintjob, expect to pay at least $3000. Serious show car paint jobs can cost upwards of $10,000 (but that's a off frame type job where the entire car is stripped)

Make sure they do a good job colorsanding though. That'll make a HUGE difference on final appearance...

Amati5 - I am actually working a SC300/400 specific STB (no bent GS bar or "washered" Supra bar). I'll let all the SC guys know when I get it done...

Finger - OUCH! At least you didn't loose the finger!

Oh yeah, ComputerWiz, I'd think twice about molding in any sort of skirts....they tend to crack at the seams after a short period of time (unless you car is NOT going to be driven and coverted into a trailer queen showcar)...I've seen it happen a billion times on daily drivers...
