Taking out the passenger seat..instructions please?
Has anyone taken out their front seats? I have taken out the 2 front bolts that bolt the front of the rails to the car. That's as far as I can get.
If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know! I want to get it off by tonight/tomorrow early so I can perhaps get it fixed for the weekend!
Thanks all!
Beyond this immediate need, can anyone suggest something I can get/purchase that will show me all these kind of things about my car? Thanks!

Jeff, the factory service manual probably has everything you need as far as procedures. Your local dealer will have to order it for you though. Or you can buy it from a discount dealer off the net. Only Lexus dealers have it though.
I have an SC300, but can't imagine it to be too different if at all. When I get home from work tonight, I'll see if I can find it.
just post here if you don't need it anymore.

I've got my wireless laptop in my car and me poking around.
When you send it I might be in the car!
lol..actually I'm now frustrated and will go for a 40 minute jog. I hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks!

There are also 5 bolts in the back of the rail. Pop the 2 covers off and under the one near the center, there will be 3 bolts. Under the cover near the door u will find 2 bolts. Hope this helps.
I'll forward that info. to my mechanic friend tomorrow.
I looked back there (couldn't really get my head back there...locked in the backmost position!!!) and am not really able to follow your instructions, but hopefully he can give it a shot.
If you/anyone else can do a "brain dump" of instructions, I could relay that to him. (I'm heading there mid tomorrow morning).
Thanks all!! My '93 is definitely at midlife crisis, but I'm determined to give it a face lift (new leather) and keep all it's internal parts working correctly!

ok...I am assuming that u had to remove two plastic "caps" to get to the front two bolts. Well, there are two similar caps on the rear, that r just larger and diff. shape. Pop them off and there should be some bolts underneath them. I am referring on how to take the seat outw/ the track still attached.
You must have the seat in the forward position to get the rear bolt off. If the power seat isn't working, use a 10mm socket (I think) and on the front of the seat there is a bolt you turn (on each side of the connecting rod is broken) to move the seat forward. The bolt point straight towards the front of the car, and they're sorta inside or above the rail.
I'll take pics later if I can, I should be back home in a couple hours.
What wireless internet you using? CDPD network?

Thanks for the tips. I do have to try that bolt in the front to get the seat to move forward. I can't get to the back bolts but now know exactly what you are talking about.
CmputerWiz, as for my network:
I have cable internet access (broadband) but I have an 802.11b (I think that's the name of it!) access point and a Farallon Wireless PC Card (802.11b compliant).
Okay, now I'm a geek.
All it is is an Apple AirPort access point (least expensive of all the manufacturers) and a PC Card to reach it in my Win2000 laptop. The AirPort is just a "router" that sits on my ethernet network.
Cool, huh?

PS. If you ever set up a cool home-based wireless network, don't buy a 2.4GHz phone! They operate on the same frequency and the network temporarily doesn't work when you're on a call. I've 'downgraded' to a 900MHz phone and I'm find now! Maybe they've solved this recently...don't know!

Cool! I use Cisco's wireless network at home, but on the road I use AT&T CDPD wireless. That way I can use my laptop anywhere that a cellphone works. It's pretty cool, but only 19.2k. But hey....it's letting me write this post right now while sitting in the waiting room at the Lexus service place.
Not a bad setup.
Anyone need me to ask the service dept or tech a question while I'm sitting here? lol

Just a tip:
If you have a mechanic you can trust or are somewhat handy, check it out before you let Lexus replace "the whole thing".
I found a loose plug screw in the assembly that drives the rails forward and back. Basically I tightened it and put it all back together...works perfectly!
Lexus would have replaced the whole underside assembly (over $1000) or just the motor (again) and charged me $450 plus labor!
Okay, now I have enough for those leather seats!

Holy crap! Whitman, that's the EXACT thing that happened to me! That's how I knew how to move the rails forward. All I had to do was put that rod back in, and put the plastic screw cap back over it. In a matter of weeks it came back off. I used teflon tape the second time to make a tight fit, and it's been great ever since!
Maybe they should do a recall, since this happens so much?
And now that I think about it, I would take it to the dealer next time it does this......I've got an extended warranty that would cover it. I'm just SOO used to fixing easy things myself that I went ahead and did it!

Amazing, huh? This is what I really like about this board: we can all levereage each others experiences, help each other out. ComputerWiz: I like the idea of the teflon tape. I didn't think of it but WHEN this happens again that's what I'm going to do!
If we were to rely only on the dealership, we'd be in for $1000 repairs each and every time. I really don't want to 'knock' the dealer, but they don't take the time (sometimes) to fully diagnose a problem; they just replace everything!
Let's continue to help each other out by reporting these problems (however remote or obscure) in the hope that we can all gain from each other's experiences!
