Default Power Steering Pumps

I’ve got my power steering pump pulled. I’ve looked over the various tutorials on refurbishing it with a kit, but I don’t have a vice and from I can tell that is vital to performing the kit install. Tell me if you have other suggestions.

At any rate, what is the best deal on a refurbished power steering pump? I’ve seen Autozone mentioned here and they are about $140 with core exchange. Are the refurbs from them reputable? It’s referred to as an ATSCO ‘brand’.

This should be a sticky somewhere seeing that we’re all going to face this sooner or later.

Default I just replaced mine----

I thought about refurbishing it but instead got a lexus parts person who gave me a good deal and then a lex repair person installed it outside the shop.

I went to Autozone. The first store that I went to that indicated they had the pump actually had an LS400 pump with the air control valve. They located another pump in another store and I bought that one. I’ve weighed the option of doing the rebuild myself and I’m now leaning toward just using the refurbished unit.

I was initially weary of the refurbished unit. It’s slightly different with the end of the high pressure oil feed being capped off. I was concerned of the possibility that the unit was a aftermarket part that wasn’t as high of quality as my original part, but getting it home and looking closer has swayed me toward thinking that is not the case.

Here are a few pictures of the refurbished pump and my pump:
