Default JDM refrigerant type?

Anyone know what type of a/c refrigerant a '95 jdm GTE motor takes? Is it R134a like USDM motor or R-12?

Thanks!

Look at the low-pressure side fitting. Unscrew the little cap, and if theres a BB-size metal ball acting as the valve, then its the new stuff.

Jay, are you sure they used the jdm a/c unit on the swap, seeing that the SC300 unit is nearly identical they may have just used that. Eitherway, I'm assuming that when they did the swap they may have disconnected and never refilled. Go to your local auto store, get the conversion kit and throw some R134a in and your as good as gold!!!! IM me if you need help.

Thanks guys...ok...this whole JDM thing...I'm trying to understand it

Here's a pic I lifted from another CL member - looks same as my motor:

That little valve stickup up by the radiator...is that the Low Pressure A/C fitting?

I looked and the valve looks like a normal tire / pin type valve, no little bb-sized ball.

Chris - i'll hit you up, i'll need some help The conversion kit...easy?

Thanks!

PHL:

I believe the valve used to charge the system is located behind the valve you mentioned, close to the engine. At least that's where it is on my 1UZ. Not sure if the GTE is similiar. If I recall correctly, the system is to be charged from the Low pressure fitting which is the one more towards the engine. Charged mine 6 months ago and I forget exactly!

Do you still have the Supra in your sig? I have a neighbor's nephew that needs to be taught a lesson, with his turbo'd Mazdaspeed Protege!

Where in Jersey are you?

mkorsu -

Yeah...I was talking to Chris today...who also confirmed that the valve I need to get at is the one back by the motor, what a PITA!! Any tips on how to get at that valve...sounds like the exact same location on 1jz vs 2jz gte ? Or just squeeze your hand in there?!

Ha...yes, I still have the Supra ... just cracked off a 1.45 and 1.43 60-foot this past friday...bring on the turbo protege! I'm down in the greater marlton area.

Cherry Hill area huh? We're up in Middlesex cty. Well, on my 1UZ-FE, I just squeezed my hand in there, which is a PITA since you have do do it with the car running!! I had images in my head of my hand turning to swiss cheese from the fan!!!!

Well, the guy with the Protege is a realist at least. He's has the boost up to just over 1BAR, water injection, fuel mgmt, etc, but he does realize that he's probably only making between 225-250 at the crank. I do want to see how my SC400 will do against him from 60mph and up though. I think I'll hang even though I'm giving him about 700lbs. I drove his car and it pulls well at 60+ but not overly impressive. I just want to bust his ***** and show him what a proper turbo'd car should feel like!!!
