Saying hello: Just picked up an SC3.
Hey everyone, I'm obviously a newbie around here (with my single post). Just wanted to introduce myself and my new car.
Just picked up a 1995 SC300 with 108k from Chico, CA for $9500. It's a 5-speed, white, with limo tint in the back and CA-legal tint in the front and on the moonroof. Car came with Greddy MX exhaust, cone style intake, Eibach suspension, Tokico struts, cross drilled/slotted rotors, single 10-inch sub, 19-inch Arceo Megastar wheels with Nitto 235/35/19 tires, extra set of stock 16-inch wheels with Hankook 225/55/16 tires. I've had the car for a very short period of time, so I've only put in xenon gas filled 9005 bulbs in all the slots (sans fog lights of course).
The paint and exterior is in excellent condition. The interior leather is pretty good for having just over 100,000 miles. I will be getting synthetic leather seat covers quite soon, to both protect them and hide their damage.
Car drives great, engine revs smoothly, everything seems to be in perfect working condition.
I do want to ask a couple questions though. I have tried searching for the answers for most of them, but have not found them.
- What is the amperage of the stock alternator? I thought this would be a well documented number, but I have yet to find it!
- Is there anything that I should check, mechanically, first-hand? I'm sure these cars have their quirks just like all others, I just need to ask an educated individual what they might be.
- Does anyone know the gains that the Greddy MX exhaust system gives? I can't find numbers for it anywhere.
- Anyone know of any instructions or kits for a shroud for a cone style intake? I like the intake tone the engine has, but not the fact that it is sucking hot engine air.
And finally, I have got to finish by saying that I love this car. My previous two cars were both Subaru SVX's, which I had moderately modified, and the SC3 is a huge upgrade. Handles better, is much smoother, and I have that Lexus name in front of it all.
Thanks for the help everyone.

Welcome! I have a similar SC
You should check to see if there is oil leaking from the distributor O-ring underneath/next to the distributor. It could leak on the alternator below it and fry it. Happened to me and had to replace the alternator and battery.

Welcome to CL

I found the listing on AutoTrader, so something tells me he didn't come here much. If I were selling a car like this one, I would have posted it here first thing.

Soon I will be adding a bio of the car to my web server, complete with pictures. I'll post the link when it is done.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
