What kind of car is it? Year?
What type of fluid did you use? Dexron II or type T-IV?
Was it just a simple drain or did you remove the tranny pan?
A simple drain will require a little more than 2 quarts in order for it to be in normal range. If you removed the tranny pan, it usually takes close to 4 quarts.

This happened to me once before on a different car. I changed the tranny filter, and one of my gears quit working. It ended up being some crap that got caught in one of the small valves in the transmission, changing the pressure, and not letting it switch gears.

Hope this helps!

Default THANK YOU

tek619

1. It's a 92 Lexus SC 400
2. I used the Type T IV ATF
3. I believe my dad removed the tranny pan because he had to replace the red silicon (gasket) that sealed it.

I'm not sure if he put the whole gallon but I'm going to find out right now......I'll let you know what happens...Do you have any other suggestions???

PS: Thanks tek619 & ComputerWiz....

Ended up having to take the thing back apart, and cleaning out all the pinhole valves and such in the tranny. If it's something like that, your dad would know how to clean them out. Maybe...many mechanics won't mess with auto-trannies, they're a pain in the ***!

Default 1 gallon!!!

! gallon is twice the amount you need if you just dropped the pam .Whether you used the oil drain bolt or dropped the pan the same amount of fluid is required which is a tad over 2 quarts. If you put 1 gallon in there then of course you will have trans problems. Also while the pan was off, a remote possibility is that one of the valve electrical connectings got loose.

Thumbs up TO ALL YOU SINCERE GUYS

After everyone's feedback, "I" finally got the reverse gear to work. It was ALL just a matter of having the "normal operating temperature"!?!?! How embarassing is that. And you "Girls...." (ha-ha) But yeah, 1 gallon seemed to work okay BUT I hope I don't get any problems like you said whitediamond. *Crossing my fingers*

One grateful clublexus member,

Thanx

Maybe I'll have to post some more pics of it somewhere...the inside kicks ***. Spiral staircase and 41ft ceilings. It's a loft design. I got an awesome deal on it, so I couldn't pass it up.

Smile ONLY IN North Carolina...

Yeah, post more pictures! Your house is so isolated. How far away is the next house? Is it scary at night? I could've sworn it looked like those horror movies ya kno? (ha-ha). Only if I could have a house like that here in L.A. But that won't happen until who knows when.
