Timing belt question

Default Timing belt question

i recently purchased a 1995 sc300 with 150k. from the second owner. he had the timing belt changed at 90k from the dealer. is it about time to have it changed? how much will this run me for parts alone, and is this an easy DIY?

and another question, the car idles low sometimes, it does seem to want to stall, but it idles around 500 but the bounces back up.

Its is due up for a new timing belt soon, every 60K, but I would do a full 60k service such as...
-Timing Belt
-Water Pump
-New Sprak Plugs
-New Plug Wires

and anything else thats needed.

The timing belt will range in the price depend on where you get it, I can get the for as cheap as $50 or as much a $150-220 (toyota/lexus). All this work is not as easy as it sounds, from a level on 1-10 (1 being I don't know how to change my oil, 10 being I can rebuilt my engine top to bottom) its about a 7.5 ish. A shop (not lexus) will charge you around $700 to $1200 for eveything, depending where you live, where you go, and if you know them well.

You don't have to change timing belt and water pump every 90k. If you go to a toyota dealership they will try to sell you the t-belt at 60k.

someone told me you can change it every 120k.... well i can do the spark plugs and small things like that, but timing is a bit confusing for me. on top of this, i found out the radiator is leaking from the top, should i go with an aftermarket radiator, or get an OEM?

No man, not an easy DIY. I would definitely not recommend a novice trying it - and if they really wanted to I would make sure I had a manual. Messing the timing up and you gotta do it all over again!

Mine did the same thing, you can pick up an OEM radiator for around $150 ( I got mine for $120), but an aftermarket one will cost well over twice that.

i dont want to get a used one, because i plan on keeping this car until the wheels fall off.

Use some JB weld to seal the radiator until you get a new one
