Default Ghetto vs. Clean

Well gang:

I can certainly understand why so many do not attempt to install aftermarket stereo into their SC's... Not for the weary-at-heart

What I do know is that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and I am of the belief that one should do it right the first time, and then does not have to return and do it over. DIY is great, but sometimes it is better to pay for the right job if one does not have the experience or skills to DIY.

Below is a prime example of a Ghetto DIY, and a Clean Pay for it job.

Photo 1: Dremeled plastic plate, it broke during final shaping

Photo 2

Even if it did not break, or we re-did it, it would have still done nothing more than cover the gaping hole around the head unit. The hole may have looked better

Now look at the right way to do it...

This is a pic of taping off the pieces to protect them from scratching...

More to come...

Now look at the quality and craftmanship of a properly made custom plate... I did not make this, I paid Ultimate Audio to make it, and I am quite happy with their work

I can't wait to get it in the car...

looks good, but imo if the peice was made flat black w/o the textures it would look better

You guy's should have shown some real interest in these pieces, i'd have been happy to make some. You guy's DO know i owned car audio stores, right?

When i did my Sc a couple years ago, i decided i wanted a completely stealth look and made this:

Unfortunately i never did get a finished pic of it, and now i have changed the setup. However, i do have TONS of clear plexiglass and access to all the ABS i want and could easily custom cut these for *probalby* $60. each. You guy's would just need to PM me a request for one.

Ryan, you have a great install there, i love the way they used a heat gun to warp the edges down into the units, that's one of the first tricks i learned when i enrolled in the installer institute in florida many years back. Another cool trick is to use the heat gun to warp the plastic FORWARD, as if fiberglass was used to form it, but in reality it is only heat
I'd expect nothing less from your system buddy!

i was thinking about putting my edfc controller in the same spot but decided against it because i like my current headunit setup too much right now. I must say i do like your setup though and now im reconsidering revamping my installation to move it there. mine was strictly a DIY but i dont think i would call it ghetto (even though i did use an old purse as the source of my leather and scrap wood to build the face )
I think the only thing i would do different is maybe sink it back a little bit so the faceplate is flush with the surrounding dash piece, not the HVAC to give it a little depth. Right now its mounted with stock screw holes so that when the faceplate is off its flush but with it on it protrudes the thickness of the faceplate.

Looking sweet, Ryan. The only way to be.

Only took you 4 years. Better late than never, eh?
