Screeching Noise when foot off the pedal (decelerating)

Hi all, I've had this very weird noise coming from underneath the car.
For example, if I accelerate fast in 2nd/3rd gear.. car gets to say 40-50mph, then I lift my foot off the gas pedal, thats when I hear this screeching noise, Zzzzing, as if metal is rubbing or something, It's not terribly loud, but it is definitely there. It's funny how this is only happening when the car is decelerating - since i'm not longer on the gas, the engine braking is slowing down the car....
I have a 5spd manual, does anyone know what's up?

p.s. if one didn't know any better, it'd sound almost like a blow off valve

possibly the driveshaft center bearing.

My 92 SC400 made that exact same sound. It turned out to be the rear engine mount (tranny mount). It was crushed to the point where it was making metal to metal contact and it would transmit noise into the interior. Once I replaced it, the noise went away completely. And like OLT says, it could also be the center support bearing.

how exactly can a mechanic diagnoise these problems... the center support bearing doesn't seem to have any play... nor the tranny mount...
what do they have to do to actually say "yes, its definitely the tranny mount, or yes, its definitely the center support bearing"... ?

in regards to the tranny mount, you're going to have to remove it to see how bad the damage is (if there is any). By just an eye inspection it seems alright but when you take it off you'll see if it's in one part or two and if it still has the remaning rubber in between the two parts of it.

it's real easy to take out and replace btw, someone on the board wrote up a tutorial for it somewhere.
