Default Trunk shocks question

Sorry for asking a stupid question, but how would I know if my trunk shocks are bad? If i pull latch is the trunk suppose to pop right up? I'm asking this question because whenever I pull the latch, it opens but the truck never pops up, it still looks like it is closed, but the trunk still stays up when it is open all the way.

If you've ever been knocked out by your trunk, the shocks are bad.

well, even if you haven't been KO'd... if they come down on your head after you open the trunk, they're bad.

They shouldn't pop up all on their own... unless you've got super-juiced struts -- they should just keep your trunk open when it's open

I've replaced the trunk shocks on 4 different SC400's, 3 w/spoilers, 1 without. I've always used the shocks made for "spoilered" trunk lids- there is no reason not to. On two of the cars, the lids popped up just after the install, but only one of them continues to (once it warms up around here, maybe the other lid will start popping up again).

All the replacements were the Delcos from Rock Auto, so maybe there are some variations in the manufacturing.

My truck shocks have been bad since I got the car... I'd replace them but they arent on the highest priority of things to take care of right now...

The shocks cost less than $50 and take less than 15 minutes to install.
