What kinda tint on a PDW SC4?
#17
Like DlaxMan 3 I prefer 20% all around if you have tan/grey/spruce interior, maybe 35% if you have black. I'm weary of cops so I have 35% all around on spruce. No pics as of yet, but will post when I do.

I mentioned earlier about Johnson films. Here, take a look. They are the best.

As a tinter I will give my opinion. I have tinted a couple of dozen SC's and done them in metalic as well as charcoal. The charcoal looks the best in my opinion. The reason is that there is a lot of black out on all the windows and by putting a reflective film on there it doesnt look as smooth and puts to much focus on the windows. I have tried both on my SC and stuck with the charcoal due to the better looks. There are a lot of films out there and Johnsons is not even close to the best. Used them for a year as well as all the other decent films out there. Just go with a high performance film to avoid turning blue or purple. If you want a good film that will hold up well look at Llumar, SunTek, Sun Guard, and Hooper Optiks. The others are okay and make decent film but do yourself a favor and get HP and stay away from the died stuff. Here is a pic of 15% on my SC.

I have used Hooper. They are a good film. We only used the highest Quality of Johnson fims. But, that was almost 6 years ago, so your statement my be correct now. But, from what I saw from working at my folks shop, and from what you already prob. know, you can have an awesome film but if the installer sucks, then . But like I said, its been about 6 years.

Yah the install will make or break the job. I am used to using the high end films and wasnt impressed by the johnsons film. It wasnt bad but just not up to par with some of the other films out there. As long as you are using a HP film you cant go wrong. Sun Guard will fad quicker than most and doesnt have a real agressive adhessive so watch out for them. Not a bad film just wont last more than 4-5 years depending on climate and film choice. They all have good and bad points but there isnt really a best film out there just many good films. There are a few to stay away from though and they are Protect Gard (cheap and doesnt last), Maddico (overpriced for the quality), Global (over priced for quality), Soltek (junk plain and simple), 3M (garanteed to turn purple in a year or less), and anything you can buy from a parts store or wal mart.

I have 5% on my back windows and back quarter panel windows and 20% on my door windows. Looks good, I can still see cars at night, and I got pulled over the other day and the cop didn't say anything about my tint!

You brought up a good point about 3M. When my folks owned the shop we tried it and we were not impressed at all. We figured since 3M makes alot of great products that their film would be good. nope,
