Question

I can’t believe that I’m the only one that has had these thoughts???

I’m sitting in traffic at a stoplight, I watch the cars whiz by – 6 lanes of wall-to-wall cars whizzing by. I scan them for the car that I might trade my old ’92 SC4 for - even in an affluent area of big D - BMWs, Mercedes, Porsches, Jaguars, Corvettes pass by and (considering the “rules”) very few that I’d trade for.

The game is this - what would you trade for if:

· It’s an even trade – no money involved
· you can’t sell it (and pocket the profit)
· it’s your only car and you have to drive it daily for at least 3 years – be realistic, you’ll have to keep it up, pay the gas bills, repairs, insurance, etc.

Last week in Pittsburg, I had a Taurus rent car – brand new – nice family car – but wouldn’t trade my antique for it. Few weeks ago, had an RX-300 loaner – again, under the “rules” – wouldn’t trade my car for it. Now the RX-300 is perhaps the best of breed in the compact SUV group – but for me, I rather have my 9 year-old SC.

To be sure, there are a few I’d trade for – but I’m interested in your opinions.
Anyone else compare other (lesser) cars against your Lex – if so, considering the rules, which one would you trade for??

Post not a one

I would not trade for anything. I love my coupe even though shes not my daily driver - only because I hate to get the car out in rainy weather or park her at the mall.

Of course if I could trade straight up for say a new 911 then yeah, I'd do it. Insurance is cheap on a paid for car.

Default Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I have to agree with 93300, it's hard to beat the SC's style, reliability(low maintenance), aura and the ease of it being a daily driver...

However I have a contender...

'95 Pearl 300ZX 2+2 or '94 300ZXTT ... we owned both before(totaled the 2+2 and got my SC4 ... sold the TT and got a '97 Range Rover which was sold to get the Vette last year...)and had great success with the "rules" of game... The "Z" is a very easy car to own and operate with more go fast goodies and much better handling, braking than the SC. Plus "Z" have a forever young style too, like the SC...

Maybe a Porsche 968... pretty good car to drive day to day, but the maintenance is high too...

nothing else can compare to my car situation........

SC wins!!!

Default Nissan S15 Silvia...

If I had to trade mine in, it would have to be a Nissan S15 Silvia. It follows the same cues as the SC, but in a more aggressive, stand out-ish way. Similar coupe design, rear wheel drive and turbo. The only problem with the S15 is that the design is like a fad... The S15 design will look old in 5 years whilst the SC will still maintain that elegant grace 10 years on.

Mines a Soarer GT (2.5 Twin turbo) so insurance wouldnt change that much .... might even drop. :P and the S15 Silvia has similar performance figues to my TT.

Either that or go Skyline GTR or Toyota Supra. Both of which I would be afraid to park in anywhere other than a carpark and I would never trust a valet with it.

Cheers,

Toan.

The only car that I would swap my SC for would be a twin turbo Supra. Realistically that is.

I agree with the Ikon on the PORSCHE 968 cab. Tiptronic. I used to own one 93 Midnight Blue/ grey leather/blue top, and sold it last year because I needed a car with a back seat. What a great car. Go to www.968.net click on the classifieds and you can see the pictures of her.

Bang, your 968 was tight! I know you cried when you saw it go... The things we do for family... My Uncle in Stone Mountain(Atlanta) has a guards red 968 cab. He loves it!

I'll also take a '88 or '89 944(951) Turbo S... still the best handling car in the world.

I also have a '92 SC400 and wouldn't trade it for anything. It does get a little expensive when something goes wrong and when new tires are needed, but otherwise, I've never driven a better car.

Any idea as to how much the model is worth on the market? Mine has 108,000 miles and is in great shape?
Because they are not making the car any longer, do you think valaues will increase as a collector's car??

Like to hear from you.

I wouldn't trade my 92 SC for anything, but if I had a gun to my head I would probably trade it straight up for a 2000 Jetta or a '95 Mazda RX7 Twin Turbo. They are all worth around 18k which is what you'll get depending on your mileage. Mine has 65k and that's what I was quoted.

Do you have any pics of your car anywhere. I have yet to see one the same color as mine.

Peace and hair grease.

hoops - I did check out your pics - it's almost the same car! You've got me on the wheels, but I like my window tint! I finally loaded 3 pics of my lil darlin in the gallery - they were the first ones there last weekend. I've always liked that color - calling it "red" doesn't do it justice - it's like callin a fine vintage wine a "red".

co'brien - Genrally agree on hoop's value - I checked Kelley and Edmunds in April and "our" cars pulled as low as 11-12k and as much as 19k - in fact, Sewell Lexus had a '92 SC4 in their inventory for $25,995 on April 7 of this year! Don't know what made it so special?? It's also not there anymore. I know I wouldn't let mine go for 20k - it's probably worth more to me than anyone else.

Sweet car Garnet.

I have no idea why the Garnet color didn't sell well. When the car is polished it looks like a freshly poured glass of chablis. I think it's the best shade of paint.

In the pictures is your Borla installed? I am interested on the look of the system. I don't want the pipes to protrude much more than the stock muffler tips if I go with the Borla. How about the sound? Give me your opinions.

Peace

Cool

Hey hoops, I have the Borla on our SC and think it sounds great and doesn't stick out but maybe half and inch to an inch more than the stock exhaust on top.Pics of our Lexus showing the Borla exhaust
