Should I be pleased or upset?

It's not garnet -- it's Renaissance Red They changed in 95 to a brighter, glossy red... and it still pales in comparison to Absolutely Red (I think that's the name)
That spoiler is the stock one they had on the SC400 & as a 300 option up until 1997, when they did the body style update, IIRC.

Absolute Red is actually, believe it or not, brighter than Ren red. Absolute has a bit of orange mixed with red which gives off more brillance..I see glare when I stared at it for more than 30 seconds.. IMO, Ren red looks classier than Absolute. Absolute is a bit more on the sportier side..Which explains why it's only available for the IS and SC430..
Like some have pointed out before, I think you need to show him what a fully modded SC looks like..I'm sure he'll be very excited into modding his SC exactly the same way or even better...If you can, bring him to some meets in the summertime and let him meet a couple of CL members..I'm sure he'll want to visit CL at least once....If he ever does come on the CL, people here will more than school him about SC's...We'll give him a perspective of cars and life that he never knew existed..Sometimes we forget that CL isn't all about the emblem on the hood. It's about how we, as fellow owners, live our lives...

I'd be mad that my parents played favorites like that. Kids should be treated equally when it comes to stuff like getting a car. My first car was a $500 pile of @$&%! (1976 Pinto with a salvage title and a $50 paint job), and I didn't even get that until I had proven I could drive my mom's car without getting a ticket and/or killing somebody. Plus I had to pay for my own insurance (that gives the kid an incentive to be a good driver).
So his buddies are driving Escalades and F-350's. Big deal. Maybe their families have money. Maybe not. But when I was in high school, there were kids with Mercedes and BMWs. I wasn't one of them and I didn't care, because there's more to one's worth as a human being than their car.

Part of the situation is also how he was raised. When I was younger and we lived in LA it was more of a hard environment with me dealing with gangbangers, crack heads, prostitutes, and stick-up kids on the daily as I went to and from school. They knew what I was dealing with on the streets and decided to move to the valley. I was about to start high school and didn't want to go to a wuss valley school. I wanted to stay in South Central because I was used to it. So I went to high school here in LA whereas years later he attended school in the valley with all these rich kids. It's not his fault totally, it's just that's all he knows. I'm sure the kid will be fine...I'll just have to guide him
