Question about Hooker Maximum Flow mufflers

Question Question about Hooker Maximum Flow mufflers

I was wondering if anyone had heard any of these mufflers before. They supposedly are the same design as the Dynomax Ultra Flo's but with a black finish. I believe VsSC400 had some on his 1992 SC400. I am thinking about purchasing a pair and wanted to know how they sounded. I am looking for a louder/deeper tone than the stock mufflers and I already know they will outflow the stock mufflers by a longshot. It seems as if the stock mufflers defeat the purpose of my true dual exhaust setup being that they are not straight-through. Any opinions/suggestions?

i had the hooker thurnder series mufflers on my SC400 with true dual.

They are also almost identical in size as the stock SC400 muffler. I had the muffler hanger from the stock SC400 muffler welded on to the hooker mufflers and it worked out as if it was designed for the SC400.
I loved how they sounded. I'd buy them again.

Excellent. I think I will order some today. Any recommendations on exhaust tips? I am looking at something very similar to the Magnaflow oval tips or the L-Tuned mufflers for the GS400/300's (round tip). Thanks again for the info.

i used a ractive slant cut 2.5" inlet and 3.5" outlet tip. bought them at a local shop for $40 for the pair.

the mufflers I got a summit for I think $35 each.

$35 each!!! Damn man! How do they sound?? Do you think they had any performance gains over the stock mufflers. I have the true dual as well. They seem very inexpensive for a muffler you gave such high ratings too. Please tell more,

basically when I designed the dual exhaust system I wanted to keep all the factory mountings. These mufflers were the same dimensions as the stock mufflers and they promised a sound level that was no louder than 25% over stock but with deeper tone. I figure I couldn't go wrong testing them out for $35 each.

They are no show bling polished mufflers but they fit like stock, work like stock but just a hair more aggressive sounding than stock.

I cannot attest to the performance aspect because I don't have any dyno graph to show that would confirm or deny any performance gainst with only the mufflers swapped out.

my mistake the mufflers were 60 bucks.

Your stock mufflers are the straight-through type.
If you don't believe me, take apart the connections under there and run a coat hanger through them.
That's what I did when I bought my car three years ago when nobody could give me an answer here on the forum.
The other mufflers will sound different, but won't be flowing any more.

So what exactly would the perfect set up for a planned FI SC4?
I'm thinking straight through pipes, high flow cats, 2 y pipes welded back to back, high flow straight through mufflers and tips of whatever your decibel level your hearing can handle.
EDIT: Of course with the least amount of bends possible.
I want to know the diameters, what would be best. I heard 2.25-2.5" is the best for velocity and flow.

Poop.... so if I wanted performance now I'd have to get smaller pipes and then when a kit is available I'd have to upgrade the entire exhaust line again.
