Default door lock motor problem? HELP

I was going to have an aftermarket keyless entry on my 92 SC300, but the guy at the shop showed me (I hadn't noticed) that the power door lock switch on drivers door locks both doors but only unlocks the passenger door. He said the driver side motor may be bad although he could hear it trying to work. He said the keyless entry wouldn't work until that problem is solved. Does anyone know about this problem or could there be a super secret switch somewhere that syncs up both locks....dealer wants $275 for new key PLUS one hour labor to program new chip and my master key is crumbling apart. The backup key won't open the trunk or I could use it. Anyway you get the picture. I'd welcome advice from those who may have been down this road....Thanks!
