Quick question about TT brakes
I'm getting a set of Supra TT calipers from someone, the fronts and rear calipers. Do I need anything else from his car, backing plates, etc? I'm planning on getting new rotors, pads and ss lines already.
you will need a shim kit and fitting kit if he doesn't give you those parts...
just pins for the calipers and some plates for the brake pads...
you'll need to also remove the brake dust cover...
welcome to the supra tt brake club

you dont need to remove the dust shield completely. You can cut the ridge off or bend it to flatten it out, but that might be as good as removing it since it wont catch the brake dust as well anyway. Just make sure you have everything to assemble the caliper off the car especially those spacer shims that go on the bolt holes where they fit on the car. Here's what youll need:
caliper
rotor
plate shims that go around the bolt holes
shim kit for the pads
fitting kit to hold the pads in
rods
wire thing to hold the pins in place (if its missing you can use a paperclip)
bottle of disc brake quiet (use the red stuff on the BACK of the pads between the shims and the pad backing and make sure you let it dry 15-20 minutes before installing)
i believe thats it. If ive left anything out please feel free to add to the list

$600-800 is about how much it should cost you. You can find used set of tt brakes for 500ish and u can probably snag a xdrilled rotors ss brake lines brake pads package or something for 200+.
Most people opt to just swap out the front with ls400 calipers the are just as good as the supra tt front brakes but the rotors are just a tad bit smaller. cost is under 300 with pads and rotors.

Hmmmm ok, cause i was looking at this set of refurb'ed TT calipers for 550. THen like brembo xdrilled/slotted rotors, ultimate pads, and ss lines all the way around for like 500 shipped. Hmm 1050 shipped ..... thats kinda outta my range. Maybe later down the road.
Carson sells the SUPRA BBK with everything you need (rotors, shim kit, pads...etc) for $900 brand new..For 200 dollars more you get everything new, thats a good deal IMHO..

What do people who do the upgrade do with the brake dust shield? I remember on a site they bent it back. Is this what most people do or do they just remove it in favor of the TT brake shield?
Also, I think I read that iwth the removal/install of the brake dust shield, you need to remove the wheel bearing? Sounds like a laborious job.
Can anyone confirm?
