Default SC4 Shifting probs

a buddy of mine has a stock 1992 Sc400. hes had the car for a few months now and started having problems with the shifting in the auto trans. he was sayin it shifted high. really realy high; ~6500rpm and it would hesitate on the red before shifting up. i wanted to know if this is a widespread prob with a simple fix or if this is an isolated incident and sumthing went wrong. the car itself had a clean carfax.

Thnx for the help!

Default I'll take a shot at this since no one else has yet....

There's almost nothing that can be done by us shade-tree mechanics to the auto tranny except changing the fluid, dropping the pan and cleaning the screen. Some shudder is known to go away after fresh ATF is added, but I've not heard of your specific problem. ATF flushes and screen cleanings have been covered dozens of times in other threads- search if you are interested.

The car's computer controls the shifting and its memory might benefit from a flushing of its own, so pull its fuse or disconnect the battery for awhile and see if a reset improves anything.

I had all of my fluids replaced a while ago and my car ran like how a Lexus was supposed to. I say take it to a pro tranny place and get their opinion. Otherwise, changing the fluid and cleaning the screen are all I can think of.
