Default Tranny bangs into gear (sc400 auto)

Past couple weeks my car will learch into gear when i go from park to drive and im getting harsh shifts. It smooths out after it warms up but i get odd kind of late down shifts when i come to a stop at a light to. It also seems to have a high idle and want to take off from me, have to mash the brake but that also stop after it warms up. Anything i can try or is this tranny going out?

looks like your trans is on its way out, lucky for us, trans are n ot that expensive, and not hard to replace. but try the cheapest thing first, flush it out, put some toyota fluid in there and see what happens. when last did you change the fluid?.

About a year ago, I replaced a rear main seal then. I played with the TPS and it seemed to help a bit. It also looks like the hose going to my idle control valve is cracked so i wonder if that could be it.

I dont think that your trans is going out mine does this too and I just put in a used one....... Im not saying my used ones the best but I am saying that its a helluva alot better than the one that was in there and it never did that before it went out..., Have you ever messed with the throttle cables at all? The tps could be liable I suppose Im going to mess around and try to fix mine and if I find out what it is I will post so you know and you do the same.

check your tranny mounts also. if they are warn or broken your tranny is shifted off one side its going be hard to shift it from park > drive smoothly also affects your driving when the car shifts.

You can adjust the shift pressure line on top of the throttle body. I did mine to get a firmer shift. It downs shifts a little firmer, but I like it. You can try this, and if you dont like it, you can change it back, if it doesnt correct your problem. Just remember how many times you turned the cable. If you need the link, PM me.

It has newer mounts on mine, i have adjusted the cable. The firmer shift are fine its just when i roll up to a light and it downshifts late and shutters is my issue.

Then I would say a faulty solenoid, or you need a whole transmission.

was this figured out? my tranny is completely fine when upshifting and putting it into drive, it's only when downshifting into 1st that it's pretty rough, and really late. it downshifts to first almost when i'm completely stopped. i'm gonna first do a fluid change, not all of it, just a little because old tranny and flushing all the fluid can cause it to slip.

There is a thread on this in the Engine Trans. section, my car has been doing this since the engine was removed for all new gaskets. Have loosened the shift cable with no help. I also have a new trans. mount.

"Tranny bangs" is not a family friendly beginning to a thread title....

I checked my tranny fluid and it's dark so I'm scared to flush the fluid because it will remove the suspended clutch material and might make it slip. A tranny mount is a little out of my budget right now so I'm not sure what to do. It's only down shifting to first though and only sometimes too.
