Default Tail Light Problem

Wassup guys. my tail lights are suppose to come on when i turn my head lights on but they only come on when i step on the brakes. if i drive at night ..ill probably get pulled over.. does anyone have this problem or have any solutions? (i've already checked the fuse box)

ummm...put in new bulbs?

i think I had that same problem but I had only one taillight that was out...

yeah, have you changed all of the bulbs? Is there an amber light on in the upper left corner of your dash?

Had the same problem on my 93' never figured it out. Ended up taping into another power supply

May be only using single-filament bulbs (1156) instead of the 1157's, the two-filament ones

Man you seem to have a lot of problems with your car.

Did u check the tailight relay?? it's only $42 from Lexus for a new one!! It is in the fuse box on the drivers kick panel.

Looked at all the relays, dont know how to check if its busted. I got pulled over and got a couple point defective vehicle ticket, so needed driving lights(not brake) quick. Dx3 were you saying my car has alot of problems? If so yes, I don't seem to have luck with cars -Brett

Go to your fusebox on your drivers kickpanel. You will see some fuses - directly above the fuses there is a small black plastic box. That is your tailight relay.

have you checked if you have any blown fuses (under the dash), I had a corolla(AE86) that was notorious for blowing rear light fuses when racing on rainy days... brake lights worked but nothing else on the back worked. For me a fuse fixed the problem until it started raining really bad again. I just kept a stash of fuses with me. good luck

Hey man,

Here is a picture of what the relay looks like. I don't know if there is a way to test the relay or not, but I know a new one is approximately $43 from Lexus.

You don't need anything special to pull it out - your hand is fine.

It is located on the drivers kick panel fusebox.

hey i changed the relay and all the bulbs and fuse.. but it wasnt that.. it was this big yellow electionic piece located in the trunk area. It was called Tail light failure or something like that.

Hey man - r u sure that it wasn't black? In every C I have come into contact with the light failure sensor is a black box??

Post a picturte of what u r talking about
