Default Why alignment after shock install?

Dumb question, why would installing shocks on an sc400 ruin the alignment. Since the shock/strut assembly doesn't provide structural support because there's an upper and lower control arm, it wouldn't matter unless you unbolted one of the control arms from the frame, right?
