Unhappy

I have an old SC400 and the power windows I think have almost had enough!
It's so sluggish whenever rolling up or down...
What could you do to make it like new?
Is the only way buying a new motor in the door?

I had the same problem on my car...the dealer took care of it by lubing something in the window mechanism. Took 15 minutes, faster now than ever before.

Last time I took a look at the window motor, I remember there were two vertical tracks it ran along. I would just lube every moving part in the power window though.

Since the door panel is such a PITA, I was wondering if there was a certain point. Seems to be better when warm. Could that little window clip that is like $5 be cracked? Someone mentioned it in the past two weeks.

my passenger window was dead slow too, but after someone slammed into my passenger side door, the body shop replaced the whole door along with the motor. so luckily for me, my window works fine now , but my door doesn't close right anymore, so i kinda have to push a little harder to close it.

My driver side window is a half second slower than my passenger side. It also makes a single pop sound when it first slides down. I took the door apart to see if I could find the source of the pop, but no luck. Anyone have a similar experience?

Yes, I have the popping sound. I almost expect to hear a sickening crunch and then it just quit one day.

Yeah it sounds like it's about to break something (almost like a snapping sound), but I probably use my power windows the most out of anyone, and they haven't failed yet. I've isolated the general area where the sound is coming from, but I can't see anything that would physically cause that sound.

I've had the the popping sound w/ my car also. but it only happend a couple of time and really hasnt occured recently. The only difference is when my windows popped, it only happened when it was fully rolled up and was coming down.

Same here, it only happens from the top position.

Question lubed up....and still slow......

Passenger side window is still slow after the "lube job"...........

Does this mean replace the motor? regulator? both?

If so, how much am I looking at?

What does the regulator do anyways?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like there is "play" in the window regulator. could be in the gears, could be in the track. when the unit is in the air but not fully up, it is being held down in position by gravity, but when it is fully up the regulator will start to drop before the window releases from the upper frame. it kinda sticks into position before the regulator pulls it out of the frame and back down onto the track. the slack is audible as a popping sound.

i can't confirm this but you might be able to feel the play by lowering the window a little and attempting to pull up and down on it.

Just an update, one of my window tracks on the driver side was misaligned. It was causing excessive strain on the window regulator. Once I had the track straightened out and the regulator replaced (due to wear), everything went back to normal.
