Default Is the 2jz-ge an interference engine?

If the timing belt brakes on the 2jz-ge, will it bend valves in the head?
Been wondering the answer to this question for a while just nevered posted...

maybe w/ VVTi, but not a pre VVTi 2JZ-GE or GTE -- you need 272 cams to turn it into an interferace engine.

The VVT-i engines are non-interference as well. You can bend valves, but you'll have to bust rods to do it.

I found it:. page 1082 EM-18 Engine Mechanical - Timing belt

NOTICE:
If the timing belt is disengaged, having the crankshaft
pulley at the wrong angle can cause the piston head and
valve head to come into contact with each other when you
remove the camshaft timing pulleys (steps 13 and 19), thus
resulting damage. So, always set the crankshaft pulley at
the correct angle.

Vtt-i engine are interference. Jon, You had the GTE short block on your set up so the piston dome are a lot lower. All VVT-I engine are interference engine!

ah crap... I tag along for a fun little question, and it turns into a flip flop flip flop!

So a VVTi head on a GTE block = non-interferance

VVTi GE = Interferance

regular 2JZ-GE = non-interferance

regular 2JZ-GTE = non-interferance

Interesting.

Interesting.
The valves cut on GTE pistons are a deeper.
