Default auto tilt wheel failure

while restarting my sc 400 today, i noticed a humming/grinding sound coming from my steering wheel. after further investigation i noticed my wheel was not coming to its preset position. it moves in and out, but not up and down. i took off the covers and to and came to the conclusion the gear is either not engauging, or it is stripped. there was no prior warning of a failure. has this happened to anyone? is there a way to manually get the wheel in position? its no fun driving the car with the wheel in the up position! im a newbie here, but any help would be greatly appreciated. i really need a quick fix fast until i can replace the motor if that is what is needed

Even though the search button would have helped you 15 hours ago, here is some help.

Take the cover by the tilt motor off. There is a blue gear wheel, check and see if it's aligned. If not add a washer on both sides of the gear wheel and that should do it.

Hope this is of service to you.
