Edit: so basically, what are your thoughts on this? If you can see, my fender has bowed out, and I've got a crease by the rear wheel well.

What are your thoughts on the fluid that seems to be on the rear cat?

How about the lines on the trunk?

Does it look like an easy fix?

Damn that sux.
Looks like pretty extensive damage to me, although I'm not a pro.
I'm 90% sure that'll be declared totaled.
If so, take the money, buy the car back from insurance (I think it's like $1000 or something) and part it out.
Then proceed to finding yourself a new SC.

Sorry about your loss.

Good luck.

Judging from the pics, it looks like its gonna be totalled But yeh, buy it and part it out, I know you did some audio work so that's more incentive to get it back.

[Edit]: So, did the other driver give you an explanantion/excuse or something?

you have damage on almost every panel, so *poof* it's gone.

Sorry to hear, but now you can find one without overspray on the tire well

Seriously, just gotta pick yourself up and find another. It was worth it the first time, it'll be worth it the second time.

Yea, buy your car back and part it out, you can just look for an auto and do the swap with your current 5speed and ecu. good luck man.

unfortunately, as a student, I really don't have time to mess with 5 speed swaps or parting out my car (that if they even total the thing)

But if anyone's interested in my car as a whole, if they do total it, PM me.

As far as the other driver (behind me), it was an honest mistake in a panic braking situation. Someone ahead of me decided a full-on stop on the 101 would be a good idea, regardless of the fact that there was 4 cars behind them.

I've seen it happen a few times in LA since I've been here. In Boston there would be serious swear words and signs for Route 1 if shenanigans like that happened... you don't just have a blond moment on 128

We invented aggresive driving. Then perfected it

LA invented bad driving, then perfected it

At this point, I'm considering a MKIV, silver or black SC300 5 speed w/ black interior. I've had bad luck with red SC's so far

Sorry to see what happened.

Good luck if you decide to go back to an SC or get a Supra.

They may not total it. I've seen worse get repaired and by insurance companies as well.. Pulling Frames isn't that hard of a thing to do for a proper bodyshop. If the other person's insurance pays for the repairs then get the work done at a dealership as they would have the best equipment.

The thing is that most of the time if you pull a frame, the car still will never drive like it used to.

You have the right to select any body-shop to do the repairs. Now if you befriend the guys who run the shop, they may just say that the car is non-repairable (or costs too much) and total it. For our color (Renaissance Red) its hard to color match, the color will be a few shades off, so you can demand to have the whole car resprayed - that would definatly total the car.

ditto.

The assesor is coming by tomorrow to take a look at the car. With the number of damaged panels, and the fluid leak from the transmission (I think it's coming from the tranny), I wouldn't be surpised if they totaled it. If they don't, I'm going to ask them to. It's not worth the aggrivation of waiting month after month to get the thing fixed, and still not have it primo, ya know?

Anyhow, I've developed a thing for black interiors lately

John

Not an option. not only do I detest personal injury lawyers, but I've got some other things I'm not going to discuss openly.

Sucks man, good luck and I hope you feel better. If they do total it, then definitely buy it back and make some money parting it out; not to mention helping out some fellow CL members at the same time .
