check the powersteering pump and the alternator. Both give off a similar death whine when about to or already blown. my powersteering is just about gone and it whines when i get on the pedal. I love when people ask me if its supercharged. I say no and they call me a liar.

I have a clicking sound in my car as well. My mechanic told me it was the belt tensioner and pulley.

get a full tune up bryan.... your car is in need of it anyway man. do you even know if the previous owner changed the timing belt, water pump, fuel filter, sparks, wires, etc. the first time around? not to mention your fluids are probably black. my car ran a lot quieter after i got my tune up. the only reason why my car is louder now is cause of the intake and exhuast.
