There's been an sc4 that ran a turbo mounted under the engine but there was serious clearance issues. The SC430 boys have been mounting their turbos right down near the tranny.

As far as I remember these kits do not have an intercooler because the ammount of piping cools the air down enough.

Can you clarify what you mean by this? How does more piping replace an intercooler?

I read about it on supraforums. Here's one thread about it.

Haha... finally found it. That's the thread that discusses practically every little detail about the remote mounted turbos

I thought we were talking about the SC4 from back when that had the turbo mounted below the engine bay. There was no way more piping could've fit, a FMIC was necessary.

3 posts... lol
I was talking about this kit in general. It would seem like a good solution for the SC4s deserate for boost. Mounting the turbos under the engine does not seem like a good idea to me, becase lets face it, we all hit some roadkill sooner or later, and I don't think anyone would want it taking out a turbo

Default thinking back

is this the first time this has been done???
now that i think about it when me and my buddy use to go to the races there was the guy with a 89 mustang, and we looked at him, this is just another v8 head, everybody that was there looked under his hood and no one saw the turbo till he hit 50mph then we heard it spooling, off the line he was sluggesh but midway in the race he caoght up and past the two people he raced, that guy made a killing that night. but the turbo was'nt in the rear or we would have seen it so i'm guessing it was near the tranny, he had no blow off valve either.
this was in mid 2000 but i never saw the guy again.

I read the article on the remote turbo too. The author mentioned the expected turbo lag from the long plumbing run, but says it actually has a normal lag time and then talks about how lag time greatly depends on the design of the turbo. True, but I'm still skeptical.

It's a cool article anyway. The oil line is run from the pan thru an electric aux pump and then returned to the valve cover. I agree that this is about the least practical place to mount a turbo but it is definitly original and trick. Any road debris or splashes would hit that hot turbine or intake unless it had a shield protecting it.

maybe they are targeting the cars with no aftermarket support or those with no room for anything under the hood
