Default Opinion Needed On Paint Types

After a while now I finally have my side skirts and new front bumper for my 92 to 97 conversion.

Problem is I have the pearl white 051 paint. Now I off course started out by going to the bodyshop authorized by lexus as the only one that they allow to work on the dealers vehicles. They told me that lexus does not make their own paint. IS THIS TRUE? I dont really want to spend 1500.00 getting my front bumber and sides painted by them but at the same time i dont want to take it to someone who will be mixing their own batch up and have a really mismatched paint job

so the question is Is there a place I can buy the paint that lexus uses without having to go thru a body shop? It would give me piece of mind as well as save me bucks since I have a shop that will charge only 300.00 if i bring the paint in.

where do I go to get the three stage 051 pearl paint??

thanks in advance

Just go to your local paint jobber (PPG or DuPont), and they'll hook you up with some great-matching paint. I just repainted my front bumper with DuPont Nason Urethane paint, and it came out incredibly good (especially considering it was DIY) . If you get DuPont and you want a really good paint, then get the ChromaBase paint

what type of equipment did you use to paint it yourself? Was yours a three coat process. I am not scared to DIY just need to know the facts way i figure it is if I mess up it was going to be going to the shop to be painted anyway!

I used my big ol 6HP/30 Gal air compressor hooked up to an ebay $50 HVLP air spray gun using a 1.4 mm tip. If you have a decent air compressor, all you need is a decent HVLP gun and you're ready. You just need to take your time prepping and be careful. Good luck. If you need any more help, just PM me or maybe Guitarman, he knows all about this too

Thanks
