Angry possible alternator problem battery overcharge

hello all,
ive been searching CL for the last 1.5 hours and i cant find exatly what im looking for.
Problem started two weeks ago, when my battery light came on and car died. Took out the alternator and battery and took it to autozone and they said they were both good. But the alternator didnt have a magnetic charge when i it was being used in the car before taking it out. I then took it to a freind's shop and he said i needed a new alternator. He charged me 260 for everything and the cover at the bottom and hoses were cleaned to make sure nothing was leaking into the alternator , as everyone seems to be having ps issues. As soon as i drove off, the battery light came on again as well as the ABS, and both traction control lights. I took it back to the shop and now the battery was being overcharged. it was gettin 17v so ive left it there as of now. Is this problem due defected alternator or is there something else wrong. He said something maybe wrong with my computer. What else should i tell the mechanic to check on. and what happens from gettin 17v to the battery.

i have been having the same problem...im not sure what it is...battery light and trac light once..but my engine seems to be cranking out more power..the blower kicks in hard when the battery light comes on...is the power steering pump leaking on the alternator...that is my next inspection...but i have yet to stall out...and if i leave my headlights on for 30 to 45 minutes...it drains my battery...that i found out yesterday..and the car wont start..so i know it needs to be running.

Yup, it regulates the output voltage. I cant say for certian for the SC, but most modern alternators use internal regulators and I would assume its the same for the SC.
