my 92sc has got new radiator and hoses when i got the car few weeks ago.
h'ever, i noticed that temp. needle sits a little above the 2nd line, but not close to being half way at all.
is this normal to any of you guys? my 1st gen gs temp needle sits at the 2nd line exactly, no more and
no less but the sc300 passes that line a little bit.

h'ever it does not go any higher even with the air cond. is "on"...

any thoughts?
mabye i shud flushed the whole system since i also noticed thy did not use the "toyota" red coolant
that wz recommended. instead, thy use that cheap "green" coolant and i dont like it.

On a normal engine, the thermostat influences the temp reading more than any particular brand of coolant would. On my SC4, the temp needle is just below the 3 o'clock position. Others have posted that theirs is just above 3 o'clock. It may be more of a gauge calibration issue (and variance from car to car) than anything to do with your cooling sytem setup- perhaps OLT will see this and comment more.

 

Or it could be a faulty thermostat.

 

wow! 3oclock position of the needle? isnt that kind of bad? meaning, there's quite some fixing to do?
mine is not even close to that postion. it's a little pass that line before the 3o'clock position.

yeah, maybe my thermostat needs to be changed. on my gs, last time i changed oil, i added 1 quart
of "marvel oil". i noticed the car ran a little cooler than before by watching the temp. needle which
had dropped quite a bit.

Well, I don't know what you'd have me fix- once warmed up, that's its position ever since I got the car, 7 years and 40K miles ago!

 

They vary on every single SC, your in danger if its at 1oclock in excess of a few minutes

 

yea, mines always right below the 3 o'clock position, aka a little below the middle. It didnt even budge after 6 hard runs down the 1/4-mile. I love my car
