I know this thread is way old school but i just wanted to clear a few things up if anybody every runs into this problem. I'm a Locksmith in L.A and a local Lexus Dealer (South Bay Lexus) brings us on average about 3 to 5 ignitions a week to ReKey. We charge $47.50 per rekey so yes, your new ignition can be rekey'd to match your old key that operates the rest of your locks. message me if you have any ?'s and if your local (south bay 310 area) I'll hook you up with the Club Lexus discount!

Okay more questions on same issue... we thought we had a faulty starter, glad I look at this forum!... or I would have tried to replace starter by now.
In the meantime, yesterday the ignition switch seems to have "broke", when you turn it you get no resistance and it does not bounce back (and car does not turn)... I am assuming the switch has broken internally.
Question: how do I know if it is the cylinder or the housing... as you know, the cylinder ($150) is easier to take out than the housing (another $190)...
thanks!
