Default How long do you guys plan to keep your SC

I tell myself I want to drive them till they die.

Is this how some of you feel? or do you plan on selling it and getting something more newer?

I love my 96. That aside, I've been looking for a 99 or 00 keeper for over a year. They're pretty rare and I'm determined that the new car must be in at least as nice condition as the old one. So far, none has passed that screen so maybe I will keep it forever. Most of the newer ones I see now tend to be 3 and 4 year lease turn-ins that have had poor to average care.

I run hot and cold on the SC430. I'm not sure I can adjust my lifestyle to a roadster. While the back seat in the SC400 isn't much, as least it is. I do like the convt though.

The only other car that catches my eye is the 00-01 MB CLK430. While it's attractive, I think that car has too many negatives for me to seriously consider buying one. I will say they hold their prices well!

No more than 1 year from today.

I have owned the car for about a 1 year and 4 months.

The car is currently for sale. I am not really in a hurry to sell, however, within 1 year, it must go.

I WILL be buying a house next year at this time (income tax refund time), so the car must be gone by then to put money down on a house, however, if it weren't for the ol' house-buying-factor, I would probably keep the car forever.

Until it dies, then revive it.
I will keep this car and when it dies rebuild it and turbo it and give it to my son. It is paid off so that helps.

Default how do you define "die"

for those who pledge to keep their SC till it "dies" - what constitutes "dying"?
heavy blue smoke leading to a head job? or do you go ahead and perform the valve seals repairs?
till the engine loses compression? Or do you rebuild the engine?
till the tranny starts slipping? or do you rebuild that?
What is the price limit on the repairs for a 14-yr old SC with 324,000 miles before it's time to say "sayonara soarer"?

Mine has already died, but I revived it :-). If I sell it it will be WAAAAAYYY down the road, like past having a wife a kids (I'll only be 20 in a month!)... or if I get enough cash to get a newer but pre-VVT-i SC. Aside from that, it will be around for a loooooooooooooo (gasp) ooooooooooooooooong time.

I'll consider it dead when it costs more to fix it than to buy a new one.

If I were you, I would sell the talon, mirage and celica long before that SC turbo... keep the one car you have that's a monster.

Mechanically speaking I'd say thats damn near impossible... you can buy a used, low mileage lexus V8 with tranny for something like 5K or so installed. I know someone on this board that replaced his entire suspension, interior leather and coverings, wheels, tires, performed a complete engine tune up of the major variety and had the whole car repainted pearl white for a total cost of around 8,000 dollars, making the car basically like new again. The cost of a 92 SC400 is 41,000.

My car will "die" when I or someone else wrecks it.
