With Emerald MIA, nobody makes replacement wood trim. I had mine custom done on my last SC and that only covered the wood. Nobody even makes a cover up stick on piece for the wood trim.
The the console and dash kits are stick on. No actual replacement parts exist.
There is 2 different wood layout options I think. I belive that no 92 had a passenger airbag.. so the wood is different across the center dash. 93-up was standard passenger air bag, so there is different wood layout.
When I emailed Emerald she told me there is NO way to take the wood out of the center besides taking off the dash. From when I was doing it, I could see no other way either.. Once you get into the project you will see what I mean. There is no way to get behind the dash to remove the screws that is holding it on.
If there is that would be great, but it might be to big of a PITA.
Tony is right about 2 different wood trims. I'm not sure on the years though.
I watched the local shop that did the carbon fiber covers on my 92 SC. They removed the glove box and were able to remove the wood trim by going through that opening. I'm not sure if if this would work on 93+ models.
Originally posted by octane103 man, i've been dying to do this for the longest time too.
i made a kit for the center of my dash.....but the carbon i used does not have the flexibility to go around curves. only bends. now i just need something to replace the wood to complete my dash.
i didn't bother doing the radio part cuz i'm gonna replace it with a single din radio, so i can fit two 60mm guages in there w/ some more carbon.
turbo sc.....how did you get the wood pieces off the dash? can you pm me how?
is that real CF? how much did you pay per square inch? is $1.50 too much?
I checked with this company. They can do a CF dash but you have to take your pieces out and ship to them. They were unsure of cost since these pieces were not in their database. By comparing what prices they do have ( ie...console, door handle trims...etc) looks like it would cost betweem $50-100 for each piece depending on size. They said it would take 21 days to complete the job. Including shipping time, you're looking at a month.
Everything sounds okay to me except the month with no dash pieces. I'll probably do this as long as I can get the wood pieces off without breaking them. If anyone has done it, please give instructions.
95RedSC - Are they going to make replacement pieces or just cover the existing wood? If they're making replacement pieces, that's a pretty good price for custom work. BTW, you won't have a center of passenger side vent either. I drove around for 2 weeks with no wood or vents when I got my wood done last year. Can you say fugly?
IPT is right. Full replacement pieces will be big bucks. I kinda figured it would be a wrap at those prices. Does anyone have any extra wood trim pieces layin around? I might try something new.
